Ej207 timing
« on: February 21, 2019, 09:08:41 pm »
Long story short, I’ve done the head gasket in my ej207. I timed the motor correctly and followed all procedures. The first time I started it, let it run and it died. I checked timing and it was out. Thinking it was a failed tensioner, I replaced the tensioner and re timed the car. Once again I let it run, killed it and now all the marks aren’t lining up. Any ideas as to what’s wrong?

Did you bleed your tensioner?

All your guides are there and spaced correctly?

Do you have the correct timing belt?
Did the white marks on the belt match their respective TDC marks on the pulleys?
Does the engine still turnover by hand?

Yes, correct belt, all lines were lined up with everything in the correct position. Engine turns by hand with no problems

How are you checking if timing is out? And which marks are out?

lining up the crank mark, and seeing if the others are lined up with each other and the lines. I got it sorted, turns out it was a second failed tensioner.
