Tuna's Truck - oil's well
« on: August 05, 2020, 04:34:40 pm »
Tuna bought a uckyfay truck.

This is pretty much the end of my Subaru journey. Not a lot of plans to modify it as we found it pretty much by chance with all the boxes ticked. I was dragging the wife around looking at mid-size trucks and she admitted that a full-size truck was still acceptable. This truck was traded on Friday night and we just happened to be there at the right time to make an offer acceptable to the dealership and not too far out of our budget (the used truck market is uckfaying ridiculous right now).

It has a hitch, tri-fold tonneau, and spray-in bedliner. The paper thin nerf bars are going to get tossed (even little Gabe could make them flex). That sholeasay James went over it, picked the itshay out of it and grudgingly didn't say too many bad things about it so I guess it's alright.

Wife wants to call her "Meg". I hate that name.

I can't believe I used to think you were cool.

Also, those steps are disgusting.

Very happy to hear you are replacing those running boards. Nice looking truck!
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

Did some itshay last year. Finally have time to talk about it:

Wheels from Partsengine.ca, someone I'll do my best to avoid doing business with again because a Canadian vendor who "has stock" shouldn't take two months to ship wheels. BTW dickheads, "in stock" doesn't apply to a once a month shipment from a US warehouse.

Tires from Bob at UrbanX... BFG KO2's. Even though M+S rated they were a little slippery when driving through the mountains in our recent blizzard last month. But 30 kph is okay when due to visibility concerns rather than fear of sudden violent death from not staying on the road when it counts.

Running boards from Westin: grippy and textured. Strong enough to stamp out the snow in the soles of my boats. Not suitable for rock crawling, but then neither am I.

Mudflaps from Rokblokz because big wide tires mean sad faces behind you.

Re: Tuna's Truck - overlander
« Reply #16 on: October 15, 2022, 06:18:43 pm »
Went camping all over BC, including the island. Rented an overlander trailer from a local guy (beaverbuilt.ca) for $80 a night. Damn thing was tough as nails and built to further offroad than the truck could take it.

Some pics:

First decent stop by a lake in BC interior somewhere

We bought land on the island and this was the first time we stayed there. The lot is so heavily forested that we can only use the first few metres of a slip road

Almost didn't make the ferry. that would have been a right isspay-off

This spot was ethereal. Not another soul in sight or hearing

Same spot with gas fire during the ban

Ran two legs of the Grizzly Ultra marathon in Radium. This is me trying to keep warm between runs

Rescue mutt Ernie also hates the cold and rain

Last few nights were out by Invermere. This location is North of Lake Enid. Spent two hours cleaning up the site after the last users trashed it. Filled two bags with garbage and found a Calgary violation ticket. Oh good onya, thanks for identifying yourselves for me to report you to RAPP, you disgusting pigs.

Last image, dog diving in after ducks and running out of rope, like something out of Looney Tunes

This is awesome, the Beater Built looks so good too (and $80/night sounds pretty reasonable honestly).
