Well, spec'd the motor out. She's worn, but it's nominal. Machinist buddy is panicking that it's out of spec... We're working off new factory spec, not ran for 28 years and 220k of abuse spec. The wear on the cyl is only down 0.05mm or something such thing.

If tables weren't so darn awkward, I'd do one up. There is a spreadsheet, but phone screenshots of excel is awkward still.

That's really all to report, the heat and smoke has been a royal untcay on my productivity

So normal bearings required.

Did some transmission clean up, looks to be sealed. nothing leaking from the trans itself. So that's nice.

Fuel flows freely from the tank, as we found out on the 30c day. That'll be useful for the mechanical pump.

Was planning on offloading the topper as, well, it's terrible. Until someone said, "oh, that'll be good for camping! no need to have a tent!"

Ah, who am I kidding. It looks terrible, off with the topper.

It's also been named, The Soggy Rocket.

If you deck the block don't forget to leave that metal timing cover on.

I would have definitely neglected that.

Cleaned the head, prepping for the task ahead...

Before...

About 30 minutes in

1 hour 30 minutes in

2 hours 30 minutes later

It's still greasy inside the intake side (yay EGR), but the exterior is shiny and nearly ready to go back together... After the tedious task of decking the head.

Can't believe how clean that has come out. I would have chucked it in pine-sol for a few weeks and forgotten about it.

So, contrary to what I've posted, I've been kinda busy putzing away on the beat-em-up. On a, rainy day in Edmonton... Canada Day, I ran up there, loaded it onto a Uhaul, damn near died (keep your trailer weight balanced properly kiddos), and brought it down to Calgary.  Everything was in the box. Motor, trans, a ridiculous amount of rock auto parts, more tires than I though I ever needed, and that uckfaying bumper is still there. Damn it. Anyway, all hanging over the rear of the Toyota's axle... Which was hanging over the rear of the Uhaul axle.
Two words: death. Wobble.
"Quick" switcharoo in a Costco parking lot, on my way to Calgary with no fuss.

Once down in Calgary, unpacked the truck, have been playing "does this go there or there" about 50% of the time... Never move your project cars unless its running.

But! Was able to get the long block assembled, all within factory spec

... Kinda within factory spec

Yeah... That's uckfayed up. And filed down and just gonna have to do.

And then this happened today

So that brings me to right now, and to the definitely-not-definitive-but-good-enough-to-at-least-move-under-its-own-power...-kinda to do list

Delete EGR
- weld exhaust manifold hole
- block intake manifold hole
- remove unnecessary vacuum lines
Install manifolds
Install electrical systems
Install radiator and thermostat
- do as good of a job as I can priming without running
Engine oil
Install carb
- tune carb
Replace clutch slave cyl
Bleed brakes and clutch
New trans fluid
- install shift lever (waiting in gasket, 7-10 business days)
New diff fluid
Headlights
Fog lights
- properly wire them up
Haphazardly reinstall interior
- maybe get blower motor working
- definitely get radio working

I see you've got one of those new variable-timing crankshaft pulleys.

Nothing *too* important will fail... Maybe the water pump or alternator. But those aren't critical... Ever

Oh, I also have electric fans that I'll throw on, for those crazy horsepower gains.

Also I have them, so they're going in

I didn't even notice the keyway damage, I was fixated on the fact it looks like a crank pulley was previously welded on!

List updated....

Delete EGR
- weld exhaust manifold hole
- block intake manifold hole - make block off plate
- remove unnecessary vacuum lines... block off spots that aren't required
Install manifolds
Install electrical systems
Install radiator and thermostat
- do as good of a job as I can priming without running
Engine oil
Install carb
- tune carb
Replace clutch slave cyl
Bleed brakes and clutch
- replace bleeder screws.... yay rust
New trans fluid
- install shift lever (waiting in gasket, 7-10 business days)
New diff fluid
Headlights
Fog lights
- properly wire them up
Haphazardly reinstall interior
- maybe get blower motor working
- definitely get radio working

And out of sheer curiousity, I wanted to see what the Altezza wheels would look like on the truck

A bit better than I actually thought... the hub bore is a little small compared to what the truck requires, but nothing a little 5mm spacer wouldn't fix

So this thing is still around, not kicking.

Motor had a bad time, tried to do a race job to get it going. Well, race, ruin, repair, repeat. So currently, progress is on the repeat side. Initially my plan was to find a junkyard LS and throw a couple Hiroshima Hurricanes with some laughing gas, but I was getting some stuff for the Tezza last night, and happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Picked up a blacktop 3S-GE (same motor as in the altezza) for a bit of a steal, although does need some work... lot of work. PO says Cyl 4 has low compression, but does run. Oil is kinda everywhere, quite a bit in the intake, and a lot all over the trans (unfortunately that had already sold). But it's as complete long block, with intake, alternator, power steering pump (that's definitely going in the altezza), AC compressor, OEM dual mass flywheel and clutch, motor mounts, and unmolested wiring harness.

The amount I snagged this motor for was pretty dang good...

Game plan for this particular motor:
- Rebuild/refresh, whichever it needs for:
- Turbo
- Lightweight flywheel
- Plug'n'play ecu

From what I've been reading, pushing 11psi on a stock bottom end, I can get around 320hp keeping the original 11.5:1 compression. If I want more than that, I'd need to do low compression pistons and rods.

Now, in order to do this the truck is gonna need, at minimum:
- better fuel system
- Transmission (I don't think the 22r trans would like it)
- Better rear axle (IRS would be nice... pain, but nice)
- Motor mounts
- Radiator
- intercooler
- rack and pinion
- better suspension
- Roll cage... keep the bench seat XD

Good times ahead
