2020 WSC Calendar
« on: September 30, 2019, 10:47:45 am »

Calendar pre-sale is over. Calendar's can still be purchased anytime but will take up to 2 weeks for printing and production!

Timeline of Events
Now - Nov 1: Photo submissions
Nov 2 - Nov 4: Voting for top 12. We only had 12 Submissions + 1 for Cover. No vote necessary.
Nov 5 - Nov 6: Tie-Breaker Vote (if necessary) - See above
Nov 7 - Nov 9: Winners submit high-res photos via email to myself please (will provide day of)
Nov 14 - Nov 20: Place your calendar orders, cost will be $17.00 CDN each + gst. [/b]I will make a new web-store online so people can pay via Credit/ PayPal etc. and for those that live outside of the Calgary area then I will personally ship them via Canada Post in a bubble mailer (Flat parcel). I will update shipping costs later ~ TBD (But I expect it will still be a bit cheaper than Zazzle' shipping). I will also have an option to 'reserve' yours and then pay cash in person, too.
Early December: Calendars will be ready / begin shipping. I'll also attend the WSC Timmies' meets the first and second weeks thereafter I receive the Calendars in December to bring them to anybody local!

The Official Rules
  • Every member of the Western Subaru Club is eligible, regardless of their car or join date.

  • Each member may only submit ONE picture. If you submit more than one, you will be disqualified and digitally spat upon. If you want to change your entry before the deadline, you are free to do so, but just edit your post (ie. don't create a new post)

  • You must own the rights to the picture that you choose to enter. Do not steal someone else's work. protip: THIS USUALLY MEANS YOU YOURSELF TOOK IT, but sometimes we commission photos from pro-photogs and may own the rights
    • To expand: Although you may commission a photographer you may not own all rights to an image. Many photographers (including photographers that frequent these waters) limit the rights to strictly non-commercial use. What does this mean? To make it very simple - You can do anything with the photos in a non-commercial way (commercial meaning profitable/ money making). You can use the photos to make a book, to print, to share on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. with all of your friends. Many wedding photographers do this - you may receive a wedding package, a portfolio, or a book etc. You can not use those images in any commercial way that makes you or someone else profit/ money.

  • The submitted picture must be of a Subaru Vehicle that is or was owned within the last year by a member of the club

  • The submitted picture must not contain nudity, inappropriate language or other such content

  • The submitted picture must be a high-quality image. 1024 x 728 does not cut it. Suggested mimimum resolution for 8.5x11 is 3300 x 2550

  • The submitted picture must be in landscape format

  • The submitted picture must not be a weird aspect ratio. Keep in mind that this picture is going to be printed on either 8.5x11 or 11x17

  • The submitted picture must have watermarks removed (Credit will be given to the owner in the Calendar)

  • The pictures from last year's calendar or any other previous years, are not eligible for entry into this year's calendar

Final Remarks
Please submit your picture by posting a LOWER RES version in this thread. If your photo wins, I will request the higher res version. This keeps thread from bogging down and being horrible.

If you have a question about whether a picture is appropriate, send it to me via PM. Don't send me nude selfies.

For those of you who are curious about the proper way of posting pictures, please see this thread: http://www.westernsubaruclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=12481.0

And last but certainly not least. The moderators will have final say on ANY and ALL photos going into the calendar.  They will be fair and won't disqualify anyone for no reason or perceived personal vendetta's. They will only be making sure the club is well represented.

Thanks everyone!

WSC Calendar History
- Zaider was the one who first received the call and ran the projects in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
- 4stair took the cup next, and with the help from pistachoo, 2013-2014 got done.
- Next, darthekai took the initiative having felt its absence for 2015.
- Jellynuts ran the show for three consecutive years; 2016, 2017, and 2018.
- pistachoo has worked behind the scenes in every one of our calendars.

This photo needs to have a significant spot in this year's calendar.

Am I really the only one that finds it a bit distasteful?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

I did whip this up lastnight when I saw it on facebook, but then...  Decided not to post it.

But this forum should be ok, right?

Anyway, yeah, a bit out of taste, but I'm not offended by it.  It's not any worse than all the Stance Jebus scraping for your sins jokes.

-Edit-

Not my calendar submission.  Also, thank you Spencer for taking on the Calendar!

Update; I’ve confirmed pricing will be set at $17ea. (Shipping still TBD but I’ll have a better idea on that in the future. If it’s too expensive to ship I’ll hopefully organize with someone to courier the lot to Edmonton for anyone there.)

All profits etc. go directly to the WSC forums / server / admin costs etc.!

Two and a half weeks left on photo submissions, we don't even have enough to make a Calendar yet ;D

Profits from all Calendar sales go towards our server costs to keep these forums up and running!

That's a good point, a good majority no longer own Subaru's within the past few years ;D But the Calendar rules have always been as such. Perhaps an idea for a change since this Calendar is literally only going to be on the walls of people part of this club most likely.

Thoughts?

I think a lot of the active members would agree that this community has brought us together for the interest in cars themselves and not just Subaru. Opening up the Calendar to the entire community would make it more accessible. Even a second Calendar would be a good option just more work.

I will be honest I am more inclined to actually purchase this calendar with active community members cars in it.

Thank you, OP, for organizing this.

I think it was initially these flat-engined cars that brought us together. It is the people and the stories that keep us together. I too vote for focusing on people, perhaps with a short blurb about each photo. Kinda like humans of new york?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Then I think it's settled (and I briefly messaged Grant about it, and he is in agreement) we will open the WSC Calendar up to ALL makes and models of MEMBER's rides!

Post away, guys! (.... We need 12 minimum to make this, hahaha ;D)

This was an issue very near to my heart, but unbeknownst to me, it turned out to be a contentious one.  I've brought this up in at least two of the previous calendars and it's always been met with resistance.  How the heck did you cut through the brick wall so fast?

2018 WSC Calendar Inclusion

Should the 2018 WSC Calendar have one page of Non-Subarus?

Man, I'm burning out just reading through those threads again.

Anyway, thanks for making the change.

^ DaDuke99's photo makes me want to put black fender badges on my WRX.

Posted this in the blue thread a while ago. The original image is a wee bit less than the recommended resolution... if that disqualifies me, so be it. To my eye it looks fine at 8.5x11" size but it's probably not good enough for 11x17".
