How To: Remove intake on '08+ WRX/STI/LGT's
« on: February 07, 2009, 07:26:41 am »
This is extremely easy. Probably a 2/10 for difficulty and mainly self-explanatory.

1) Remove intake snorkel
- Loosen two Phillips head snap clips to release snorkel

2) Remove OEM elbow
- Loosen hose clamps on OEM elbow - one at the turbo inlet, one at the stock airbox.

3) Remove MAF
- Unscrew the two small Phillips head screws.
- Pull out MAF, unplug sensor and tuck away until later.

4) Unscrew 2 x 12mm bolts securing airbox
- One bolt is at the 3 o'clock position looking down on the airbox
- The other bolt is secured to the chassis right below the headlight.

5) Pull your airbox and silencer free (they'll come out together)

You're done. :)

Interesting note:
The WRX's do not have the white plastic "silencer" box, as I see in your pic there.
Instead, there is a spot in the bottom of the airbox where there COULD be a hole to attach said silencer.

Some people have "modded" this, by cutting out the hole blocker, to increase the noise of the intake.

SO now that you've done this, I'll assume you're keeping it this way with something else in it's place.  Would you be interested in trading hood lip seals.  Mine goes all the way across, keeps out rain and small dogs. Yours has a two piece seal for your no longer installed intake duct.  If I can get one of those, I'll get that extra 1/4"Hg MP at 150kmh!

EDIT:

Oh this is your '08, hence the title (good for me!).  So can I trade you for the seal off the 07?

You sure? Mine (granted, WRX, not STi like sleeper) has a one piece seal, all the way across.
Air actually comes up from the grill and into the snorkel, as opposed to between the grill and the hood. That is blocked by the seal.

See edit, didn't pick out that he has 2 in the garage, just noticed the white bumper.
"Is that an 07?" "No it's an 08"  "Oh, sorry I'm new"  "New at what? Numbers?"

Haha, sorry man, everything that was stock off the '07 is long gone.
