How do YOU do it?
« on: February 20, 2009, 04:03:30 pm »
I was wondering, what do you find to be the easiest way to put your TMIC back on?

This is best way i have found so far and it's still a right pain in the assay. Please tell me if there's an easier way.....

1. I take off the intercooler to intake manifold hose.
2. Wiggle the 'Y' pipe back onto the turbo then tighten the hose clamp.
3. Then wiggle the hose back in between the TMIC and manifold, then fight like hell to slip it back over the barbs and pray it doesn't rip.

There has to be an easier way.

best way i found was getting the perrin intercooler hose kit.
if that's not an option i found the best is to keep the ic-tb section on the throttle body clamped on then
to heat up the turbo side of the plastic pipe get it nice and warm. set it in place and slide the plastic piece over the turbo should go easy when the turbo is cold and pipe warm. can also use some lube to help slide. then after that's on the intercooler should slide easy into the last piece with a slight bit of movement. then clamp them all up. i never wanted to do the plastic turbo clamp up right away because i was afraid to break that plastic.
and that is how i did it.

If you have the stock hard plastic y pipe,  it is real easy to go on if you heat it up with a heat gun and leave the
throttle body hose on the throttle body.

I keep the ic-tb hose on the tb, remove the driver side ic support (two bolts, very little torque), heat up both hoses, slide in over the turbo, pop it into the tb, reinstall the driver side ic support.  Took me a frigging hour to figure that out.  This method of putting it on took me 2 minutes.

same routine, except I also apply a thin film of fresh oil (usually lots is present in the tmic) to all insides of the couplers.
