Are you using the one from the dealership that has the six star service on them?  Just wondering because they are different than the OEM one that you will get if you order from subarugenuineparts.
The ones you get from SGP look like the real oem one.  The ones from the dealsership looks like a aftermarket filter with subaru painted on it.

always use  the OEM subaru filter from the dealer, i haven't seen the one from SGP but from what I have researched that OEM is the best, but hey thats just me. im sure they are all good honestly, very small diffrence it would make.

jonny, that's exactly the point.

Everyone says they're using OEM, but most everyone is actually using the "Six Star Service" ones from the dealership.  I think Stu (mars636) wanted to know how many were using the OEM ones from subarugenuineparts.com or if anyone knew of any difference between them.

I think that the ones from the dealership are just rebadged wix/ or purolator filters.  If that is the case you can buy the exact same filter for half the price.   The six star service filter i dont believe are a oem part but a oem equivalant

I should really check the filters in my car too...
The OEM ones should fit a 2.0L T as well no?

I am only using OEM filters. I have friends who use to race superbikes and many of the aftermarket filters are not allowed on the track. There is a reason for this. Thats why I only use OEM filters. They are just better.

I use Napa Gold in mine.  I've read it's basically a rebadged purolator filter.

I've heard that you should stay away from Fram because of some lower set pressure relief valve or something, whereas NG, wix, purolator, and OEM filters have a properly set relief valve.  Could be wrong, but this is what I read.

I use the OEM filters from SGP.com, people on nasioc say this and the pure ones are the best around.
Heck, ordering online is still cheaper than buying at the dealer.

I'd stay away from fram though, people have torn them apart and they have far less filtering medium than the better brands.

Guys guys.

Subaru or fuji are not in the buisness of making oil filters. They are outsourced to one of the few major filter manufacturers, can't remember which one.

As far as the pressure relief valve, or the bottom of the filter blowing out, they are designed to do that.

Dirty oil is better than no oil. So the bottom of the filter blows out if there is too much pressure (a blockage for example) to ensure the engine still gets oil.

Lightspd hit the nail in saying that thw oem filter will have proper filtering medium coupled with a propwr sized relief valve.  An aftermarket filter may have more or less filtering capacity with a similar (but not the same) relief valve setpoint.  Which aftermarket units are better than oem?  Good fricking luck finding out.

Cheers

It goes on the drain plug.  It doesn't go anywhere near the filter, unless you want to cause a leak.  :P

Purolater Pure One - trying to find a Mobil 1 filter retailer here in Calgary.

non turbo cars I have been using Napa Gold (Wix).  I have a relative who work there so can get "special" pricing.

I do want to research the newer Fram (XL??) - supposed to have synthetic filtration media?

For oil I have been using Amsoil for the longest time.   In both my cars and bikes,  never had a problem.
