my starter problem (08 STi)
« on: April 02, 2009, 05:55:44 pm »
So after a few discussions with you guys and subaru canada with regards to my starter problem but nothing being resolved since it doesn't happen all the time, i've started making videos of every time i start the car to try to catch it on camera. So here it is. I hope something can be done about it now.

btw the beeping noise is just the radar detector.

yeah, basically it sounds like i'm trying to start the car again when the car is already started.  However, you can clearly see that was on the first crank.

I assume you're cranking the starter when that sound occurs.
Does it feel like the engine is turning over?

If it doesn't feel like it's turning over, it could be the starter solenoid not pushing the pinion gear out. Or the starter motor is going. The closest thing I've seen on subies is on the GC's, is when the starter is going and the pinion gear doesn't pull out fast enough <that's what she said>.

Crazy seeing this on an 08 though.

Yes i am cranking it when it happens and no, there's no way the engine is turning over when it makes that noise.

Thank you for your input.  Hopefully this is something Scott Subaru can consider looking it.

Hi Martin. We are already on it. This should help us with the diagnosis and give us a proper starting point. Good vid.

Thanks
