Las Vegas Recommendations
« on: April 13, 2009, 08:31:14 am »
Hey guys, booked a trip to Vegas for the end of the month.   Some incredible deals happening right now, I suggest you take a look if you're due for a nice getaway.

Looking for recommendations from those who frequent the city.

Everything from the best places for Poker/Blackjack, Restaurants, Shows, Attractions, Places to drink free, etc.

As far as shows, we've heard that some of the Cirque productions are pretty amazing, so we'll probably check out one of those, along with maybe a Lance Burton type show?

I hear the restaurants are world-class (I'd like to check out Gordon Ramsay's), and we all know that the buffets in some places are great.  (Wynn I hear has a fantastic one).

Anyone care to chime in?

Duelling Pianos at the New York New York was a fun time for a less "formal" show.  Make reservations.  Good Irish pub for food/beers before hand is great.

Wayne Brady or Blue Man Group at the Venetian is OK.  There is a restaurant there called "David Burke" which I liked - But as you say there are lots of them.

Bellagio for poker and "O". "O" is the best Cirque Du Soleil show IMO and I have seen them all. Bellagio spreads the most poker games and limits. I play craps at Casino Royal. The only place left on the strip that has 100 times odds. It is a bit of a dump though. Blackjack is the same no matter were you go.

places to drink free....Any casino on the strip....sit at a slot machine and drink away!  Tip the girl every so often to keep her coming back!  We stayed at the Wynn in March and the servers in the casino were awesome!

Going for the first time next week - staying at the Bellagio.

Most of this still good? Any other recommendations?

Where are the good bewbie bars?

Think we're gonna see O at the minimum, maybe the dueling piano show, treasure island, and the carmen electra/holly madison peepshow.  And get a Hoover Dam tour in at some point.

Anything else?

What about shopping?

Was just there a couple weeks ago...Stayed at the Palazzo. If you want good deals on shopping rent a car and drive out to Primm. It's about 30-45 mins outside Las vegas. Ti (treasure Island) is kind of a Blah place, the pirate show at night is kinda neat though.

Spearamint Rhino is a nice Gentleman's Club ;)...has its own limo service. Going back in November for a friends B-day.

^ Yeah I would go to TI only to watch the pirate show ;)

Otherwise like others have said if you sit down at any table/slot machine you got unlimited free booze as long as you tip the waitress nicely. Night life is crazy all over vegas, you don't have to go far on the main strip to find somewhere with a party on.

Hey I wanted to bring this back to the top to ask a question about currency exchange...
Has anybody on here ever waited till you got there to exchange money?
I've heard that you can get a better rate if you wait till you get there.... :-\ sounds kinda shady but I thought I would ask if anyone else has heard this or done it. Also has anyone ever used their Debit card in a cash machine in the states? If so was there a higher service charge from the bank or was it just the exchange rate you were charged?

Use your debit card at the ATMs at the casinos will cost you an arm and a leg.  I always go to my local bank here and convert the cash I think I need for the whole trip.  There are however a few ATMs on the strip that are supposedly fee free, but your bank will still charge you a fee at the end of the month.

I have seen just about all the cirque shows as well and O is awesome but another amazing one is Ka at MGM, it is a martial arts based show.  Maybe it is because it is the last one I saw but KA I think is my favorite.  There are a bunch of half price ticket windows on the strip, buy your tickets there as there title says you will only pay half price.  You won't get front row center buying from them but most of the theaters are small enough that there is not really a bad seat in the house.

I have stayed at a lot of the hotels and while it is nice to have a pimpin room we never spent any time there so now when I go back I just find good deals as long as they are on the strip.  For Casinos they all have pretty much the same itshay only difference is minimum bets.  GO to the older cheaper casinos for lower bets.   I loved Mandalay Bay but playing craps at a $15 min bet gets expensive really fast so we moved down to Excalibur and even Saturday night you can find lots of $5 tables.

As for nightlife sure all the Casinos have night clubs but The Palms is by far the best.  It is off strip but with Rain, The Ghost Lounge and Playboy club none other compare.  We spent most of a night at the Ghost lounge, it is on the 55th floor has a huge patio on the roof with amazing views of the strip.

If you have never been before definitely go for a long walk up and down the strip it is pretty amazing and even after have been there many times I am still in awe at the size of it all.  And another favorite is the fountain at the Bellagio.

When we went a few weeks ago we had the VIP package from Bellagio, stayed on the 31st floor with a fountain view.    First time there, they got us the pimpin room which was very impressive.  Bellagio restaurants are pretty good, as are Wynn ones.. didn't participate much at the bars and stuff, couldn't even go to the boobie bars..  Heard good things about Palms too, but we didn't go.

Saw O (12th row centre stage), Lion King (4th row left centre), Phantom (3rd row centre), and the Wayne Brady (2nd row centre) show.

If you're a fan of his comedy work (Who's line is it?), definately go see Wayne Brady.. haven't laughed so hard in a while.  Watching wife's reaction as Wayne interacted with the guy beside her was priceless.  Turned out he owned a pr0n store in Florida, she immediately shifted a little towards me right after that revelation came out.

Bring comfortable shoes, and a water bottle.  Get your US $$ before you leave as well.. if we didn't have cash, we paid visa instead.  If your cc company has no charges for currency conversion, all the better.

I went to Criss Angel's Beleive at the Luxor, it was pretty decent. Some people didnt enjoy it and didnt like the illusions but I thought it was pretty sweet. We stayed at TI, it was a pretty nice place, like someone said the pirate show there is pretty neato. We did so much cool stuff there but I am having trouble thinking of things lol

zumanity, ka, mystare are the best in my opinion. ive been 12 times in 2 years and my favorite hotel to gamble in is ceasers and bellagio. its can get kinda intimidating at really busy times. good bars to go to are rum jungle. club jet and of course everyone loves margiritaville. there is also an outdoor bar in between flamingo and harrahs thats a lot of fun and they have 3 foot drinks that hang from ur neck lol. ur gonna have a ton of fun.

there's an in-n-out by the UNLV campus, off the strip.  not LV specific but good stuff nonetheless.  i like to order "animal style" fries from there; they put grilled onions, sauce, cheese on top of it.  you can get your burgers that way too, but usually i prefer to just get the grilled onions.

del taco is pretty sweet for cheap eats cause they have like 39c tacos?

if you're a big seafood fan, i'd recommend going to this hole in the wall place called " hot n juicy" haha i know weird name but it's basically for cajun crawfish and it's uckfaying awesome.  you order by the pound and the food comes in bags hahaha.  wear crap clothes when you go there cause you will smell like hell after, you'll need a shower after haha.  but totally worth it, it's off the strip near the chinatown.

formal address:
4810 Spring Mountain Rd # C
Las Vegas, NV 89102-8783

i pretty much agree with all other recommendations that have already been listed.  rio and mandalay bay have a pretty good buffet too (rio for seafood, yea i love seafood !)

Oh man that hot n juicy sounds so good.  Hopefully it's not too far from the strip as I'll be only walking / monorail while I am there.  I am trying l'atelear de joél robuchon( so spelled wrong). Thanks for the tip

Went to The Beatles Love Circ show. I had no idea what it was going to be like; and it was chosen because I'm a bit of a Beatle maniac, holy itshay it was a great show, it is well worth the money to go.

I Just came back.  Any circ show will be enjoyable, I seen KA and was amazed the entire time.

+1 for in-n-out burger.  There is one right next to UNLV, also there is one on the other side of the strip.  The one near UNLV is about $10-$15 cab ride from the strip(was $10 to luxor).

For cheap eats most of the hotels on the strip seemed to offer an all day buffet pass for $20-$40.  Would be a great deal if you eat 3 meals there.

ohhh, hmm depends where you are on the strip, it's more towards the wynn/treasure island side of things, i'd prob say $10-15 cab ride?  not bad if you split with a group.  but a bit costly round trip.

forgot to mention you eat with your hands only and the mild is actually pretty spicy already.  but hitting that place up and washing those crawfish down with some corona in the middle of the desert heat = uckfaying win, feels great.

oh and ghost bar at the palms, i know already mentioned.  but the view is phenomenal, if you eat at the n9ne steakhouse for dinner (at the palms); you can get a pass to all the clubs for $25.......i think is how it works, details are quite hazy since i was pretty much blitzed the entire time i was there hahaha (who isn't?!)

ok, more is starting to come back to me now

beach club at the encore is a pretty awesome pool party, the happy thing is that unless you're VIP and book a booth or cabana (for like 3k or something wild) you're relegated to just hang out on the pool ledge.  but good times nonetheless......i wanted to post a photo of it, but then, it might be NSFW haha.

OK funnest place is Little Darling gents club, they have a super cheap VIP package which include limo. it is a dry bar but the girls are amazing. for gambling cheapest place is Fremont street Downtown. they have the cheapest tables period or a terribles hotel.  Most other hotels are the same price just different atmospheres. i liked the Mirage when i was there. Shows wise i loved the Blue Man Group in the Venetian it was high energy and funny. it was a great change after a day of shopping. Prim is amazing for shopping but the Premium outlet in Vegas is also quite good. Driving in Vegas is very easy just avoid the Strip like the Plague. Food wise Bellagio had a great place for noodles called "Noodles". Planet Hollywood has an amazing Brazilian place called Pampas it is all you can eat Meat(chicken Pork Beef) they have the most amazing pinapple in the world. i at so much pineapple i lost feeling in my tongue, and they have a salad bar too. One piece of advice is there is a lot of places where you can get discounted ticket ( tix 4 tonight) and they also sell meal stuff too. there is 3 locations on the strip.
