How to open your hood 110%
« on: April 21, 2009, 11:10:32 am »
It's a useful trick when you want the prop rod out of the way for a turbo/DP install.

Or you can install hood struts. ;)

For those of us with factory hood dampers (hopefully correct spelling?) I'm assuming we are SOL?
Since we would have to unbolt the dampers.... and then also purchase said "hood stay"?

Probably.  I haven't looked through an 08+ service manual to be sure.

I dunno... I think I'm forgetting to put it into the hood first.

There's a second location on the hood that's higher up than where it comes stock that you can bolt the dampers in to.

I just use a bungie cord between the hood latch and a hook in the ceiling of the garage to keep the hood open wide.

For 05-09 Legacies there is an alternate point on the back edge of the hood that you can use to prop your hood open wider.

The attachment point on the bottom/rad-attachment point does not change.

Just be careful you're not propping the hood open in a strong wind!
They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?

I am pretty sure mine doesn't have that near the strut.

It does, it's a little rubber plug on that strut tower.

All Foresters should have that stay point by the passenger strut tower.

Works on both of mine, handy tip! Was wondering what that hole was for on strut tower.

I'm currently working on a design for a spring loaded hinge that will allow the hood to stay open all the way without hood struts or a prop rod. If it works I'll post it for everyone to see. Fingers crossed.

The Grimmspeed hood struts also open the hood to near vertical.
