Hey gang...

I've been asked by my dad who is a cross between Chuck Norris, and Bob Vila to give him a hand finishing the roof on the lake cottage.

Half of the roof has been sheeted, and the other half is likely started or close... this is where I'm turning to our community to see if I can find 2-3 guys who might be up for a weekend of grunt work and fun...

This 'little' cottage started about 10 years ago as a lot of trees... after clear cutting, a few 2x4's, a hammer a few nails it looks like this:

If this isn't enough he started building a monster 3 car garage to house all the toys (3 sleds, 4 quads, 'the jeep' and more). It's this garage that need a bit of help. I need a couple guys to help finish sheeting the roof, and shingle it. This is what the garage currently looks like:

The cottage is located on Long Lake (15 mins South of Boyle on HWY 63 to Ft. Mac/ 1 1/2 hrs north-east of Edmonton) and if I can get a few guys to give me a hand I'd supply all you'd expect to see at an All Inclusive resort (food, booze, partying...)

I thought I'd throw this out there to see if I can get a couple guys as my dad has been working on this garage hans solo and could really use the help right now...

I'm thinking about going up in the next 2-3 weeks (Thinking June 20th weekend) to give him a hand. Kids ARE welcome, as I'll likely bring my two rug rats. There are plenty of activities to keep them active; baking cookies, 3 mini quads, boat & water fun, private beach...

Anyone who volunteers will be first on the list of invites when I host a WSC North meets South Camping weekend sometime this summer.

I have the week after next off work to build a steel building for my dad at *his* lake cottage near Athabasca

I'm always up for an excuse to swing a hammer - just an issue of wether it will fit into my schedule. Lemme know final dates and I will see if I can make it.

As of right now the weekend of the 20th is open - assuming I get the other building finished during the week. However, I was also looking at building a new sidewalk and patio at home during that time... man, soooo many fun projects to work on this summer

Oh, thought I'd add a loose agenda too...

I'll be leaving Calgary likely the Friday (June 19th arriving at the lake after meeting those who want to come if need be fairly late- 9-11 pmish...) we'll work the Saturday, with a bon fire party, and such Saturday night, and then finish up Sunday and head back home mid afternoon Sunday.

Feel free to bring the GF or wife, although my wife will be stoked to have the house to herself with no kids, or myself to clean up after... lol.

I would be up for this, my construction skills are lacking but i am strong.

Wife and 4 year old son would come with me.

Haha, ok, with this much interest, I'm going to have to make sure I get the other building finished so that I can come. I'll bring the skills, but possibly less strength

wow... thanks for all the responses guys... this is HUGELY appreciated!

There are 4 bedrooms, and the master (which my folks have permanently claimed obviously) as well as almost an acre of land to pitch a tent if need be... so accommodations shouldn't be a problem, but will be given likely to those with kids first, then those with SO's....

Most of this is also weather permitting, and although a small bit of rain won't hurt, I'm not sure how safe it will be hanging off the side of this building when it's wet (and yes, we have harnesses, and likely full scaffolding up the side)

I just spoke to mom, and she's ecstatic with all the responses for help!

Seems like it will be a pretty busy weekend, but a great time none the less... I'll throw up more defined details tomorrow once everything is confirmed so those of you who do want to help out can make plans/arrangements.

Foods,
alcohols,
extra ankle biters,
tents,
stoves,
etc.

I will tell my wife to keep her schedule clear, and im NOT telling her were we are going.

Again for anyone coming to help out (in one capacity or another) I will be supplying steaks, food, and beer. There is a full kitchen, washrooms, and the like, but a tent is a good idea and sleeping bags/pillows if you want.

There is also a pool table, air hockey table, and plenty of other activities, so really all I need is a few extra hands.

...oh, and if your allergic to country music, bring ear plugs... my dad is all country:

I spent a few years on Boyle as a kid, and have lots of family around there. Long Lake was where we used to go camping when I was a kid. Weird to see it come up again after so many years.

I wish I had some weekends free because it would be nice to help you out and visit my uncles, aunts and cousins.

I just checked with the wife and unfortunately there is a school function we need to attend that Saturday.
There are 2 more for the other 2 schools she works for this month.

I will continue to mention that and hopefully she'll change her mind and say "screw the school and go have fun!".

Hey guys... so I was up there quickly this weekend as the Loon TSD ran out of Redwater and all over this area. I did get a chance to check up on the progress, and he's got the roof now sheeted, and it's getting prepped to shingle. Seems he doesn't want to wait until the 20th to get this done, so it will likely be done this weekend, and unfortunately I can't make it either...

If things change, I'll update this thread, but I wanted to send a big shout-out to those who expressed interest to give us a hand. It's another testament to the quality of guys we've got as part of our community!
