VanCharvel's 1993 JDM Build
« on: October 15, 2011, 05:18:14 PM »
My old build thread's pictures all got deleted, so I reuploaded a whole bunch...

I'm far too lazy to rewrite the whole story, however, so here's a ton of photos in a somewhat chronological fashion...

After I painted my 2.5RS wing

Another angle

Stock :(

New Filter

Painted my rims black

Half done

New crystal headlights, had to take off the grille to latch the hood

Found a 2.5RS hood at PicknPull

Wrapped it in 3M, installed grille, instaV3! (ish...)

Winters look super beefy compared to summers...

Painting my intake manifold

Puuuurttyy. New rad too

Artsy as can be

Love these things...

Installed some RAs, plus some subtle rep

One of my favorite mods so far really...

Winter mode

Ditto...

Fun near Banff

BC Racing Coilovers :D

Red LEDs installed

Tune+Turboback

MBC installed, set to 12 psi before the tune was installed

Speeeeeeeeeeedlines

Summer mode engage

Boost gauge installed

Red absolutely errywhere.... Except the coolant gauge, which apparently hates me.

Just baking in the heat

Mod List
STi Version 1/2 Front Seats
DIY 3" Cone Filter
Version 6 Headlights
Version 3 Grille
USDM 2.5RS Steel Hood

Soon to Come:
Coilpack Conversion

You may have got me there, although I think the HP gains from the STi badge more than make up for the added weight :P

Its too bad you couldnt find a ver5 or 6 hood.

We need a Ver2 to Ver6 front end swap at my shop this past winter, when I opened up the new hood I almost threw it up in the air it was so light haha

No pics for this update cause it's actually VEX that's modding my car right now, but a Koyorad is going in along with a block heater, and apparently my coilovers and sway bars are gonna have to come sooner than I thought, since my right rear shock is blown, and my front left endlink is snapped. Fun!

Hopefully I'll have everything together by mid March or so...

Looks great! The bc's are a good bang for the buck obviously. I am sure you could have saved a bunch of money buying those parts not through vex but oh well. It should be a tonne of fun once everything is back together and the coilovers are on. Also, is there any reason you went with the koyo over a mishimoto, forge or cxracing rad?

No reason other than VEX saying Koyo's are the ones they use. And I know I could have easily done it all myself, but it was at the shop anyway so I figured why not. I think they've done all the 'big' maintenance items now, so I should be free from labor costs on most if not all of my future endeavors now. *knock on wood*

Sweet, I love red & black schemes  8)

I would paint the skirts and rear valence red. If you choose not to, then the black still works with your hood and flaps. Looking good so far!

Jealous of your shiny rad haha. Just gotta wait for mine to itshay the bed.

How was vexs work? They're one of the few shops I've heard of that work on jdms quite a bit, and of course their badass GC rally car

Thanks guys!

I  dabbled with the idea of painting the skirts/spats but I think I'm gonna go for a vinyl wrap, then when I get bored peel it off and do a full red repaint with color matched handles, skirts, and spats... Maybe even with a V6 wing and grille  O0
That wouldn't be for a while though...

As for VEX, I've been 100% satisfied with the quality of work done both times I've been there (first for a T-belt change, second for all the above), although it did take a while to get the car back in my hands both times. Then again, I'm sure if I let them know I wanted it asap they would've been able to accommodate. It's also probably worth it to note that of all the times I've been there, I've never NOT seen at least one GC parked outside.

did you just swap LED's in your cluster?
I've read that what makes our clusters light up green is some film or something on the back of the gauges. but that all was for 98-01 2.5RS's

Yeah the film on the cluster is only on the 2.5RS. Interestingly though, the stock green bulbs aren't actually green, they're yellow-ish with a blue-ish rubber sock thing over them.
Here's the DIY I followed if anyone's interested. Cool and easy way to change up your interior.

The LED bulbs have a weird colour temperature thing going on, so be aware that it won't necessarily be the exact same, especially when driving at night.
