SOON.

We are either going to have a great winter, or a terrible winter I hear.
I don't name things I know I'm going to sell eventually. Hence why I'd never name any kids I had.

Who's telling you great?

El Nino = Dry = :(

That being said... I'm still gonna get out to the backcountry. Any backcountry guys on here?

So pumped, can't wait to get out.

Depends what your definition of backcountry is. I like tree runs and stuff, not huge into hiking up as I was years ago though. Too much effort lol.

Oh. Lol... my definition of backcountry is avoid resorts at all costs. Hike up for 2-3 hours, and ski down.

Depends where you want to go.  It only means dry near us, but above average precipitation in California and potentially Utah area as well.

really? I've only ever heard (and observed) the opposite in BC. If it does not get cold enough like last year though we will not have a season down here again.

I got my AST 1 two years ago and a few trips last year down Smith Dorrien trail out by Mt. Burstall.

Oh yeah... Should clarify. When I say dry, I mean East of the rockies. El nino conditions tend to make extremes on either side of the rockies. Super wet (but warm... So no snow) BC side, and dry and warm AB side.

Sounds good. Will do! AST people are much better to go out with!

Lol it's never too early to talk skiing. In fact, that's exactly what shoulder season is for ;)

Shoulder season is for mountain biking. And riding bikes. In the dark or otherwise.

But since this is a snowboard thread… well I'm not sure how much I'll get to do this year given that mini EDJ will be joining us early December. I'll get out when I can, but I suspect I'll be appreciating the ability to sleep during the day on weekends haha. I'll start praying for pow though.

Well.... Yesterday was opening day for Norquay, and Louise had their opening day today.

Whistler is expected to get four feet of snow within the next week.... What is this craziness!? I'm soo incredibly excited for this season. Anyone else?

I was checking the sunshine cams out throughout the week and it seems their base is coming along too. Really going it is a great year for snow.

I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff, but figured I'd throw this question out there --- is it realistically possible to find a good beginner snowboarding setup for ~$600? Like board, bindings, boots etc.  Are any of the brands SportChek carries any good, or should I be looking at the specific ski & board shops?  Can anyone point me in the right direction? :)  Maybe I'll invest in some gear and buy a few day passes out this season somewhere! :D I've been out about 5 times in my life and always really enjoyed it..

SportChek has good stuff. Nike makes incredibly comfortable boots. I love my Burton Cartel bindings but theyre EST so you can only use it on the Burton Channel boards. I would buy new comfortable boots and then try to find second hand bindings and snowboards as theyre going to get pretty beat up learning.

How tall are you kijho? I have a Burton board and binding I'd sell relatively cheap as it's my old setup.

Also, spend money for good boots. They make all the difference.
