Power FC Tuning
« on: December 01, 2015, 01:57:46 pm »
Hey Guys,

Recently I picked up a Power FC for my 1999 WRX (ej205). I have a few questions for those of you that have Power FC's

1) Where have you guys been getting your cars with Power FC tuned, and how has the tune been for you?

2) How much should I be expecting to pay for a tune?
-I know this can depend on mods but to give you an idea I will likely have a vf39/48 turbo, larger injectors and fuel pump when I do get around to tuning it (Just running stock ecu now with no mods). My goal is for around 250-275 WHP.

I have seen the thread for Airboy/Cobb tune costs but the Power FC is a different system, and I would expect that as a different system the time it takes to tune could vary and of course that would change the cost. Any input is appreciated but I am mostly looking for input from people who have experience with the Power FC.

Think tuning costs are pretty standard and are based on mods/dyno time required. Power FC is in Vex's repertoire, so I don't think there's any extra costs there.

I had mine tuned at Vex with a Power FC. Version 6 EJ207. This tune was just so that I didn't blow up the car driving it this winter (yeah I'm anal like that). Tune is good. Perfect as a daily. Dyno'ed at 210 whp @ 1.1 bar. Not huge power, but good enough for now especially since our cars are nearly 900 lbs lighter than GDs.

I'm gonna bring it back in after I bolt on a bunch of stuff this spring.

Call Jimmy at Vex. He'll have all the info you need.

DO NOT choose the shorter trip and stop at a certain tuning shop in Red Deer...

Heh. I've heard a lot about said shop. Almost went there too... Glad I went the PFC route.

so you are saying your car weighs between 2360-2230lbs? last I checked it was closer to between 2870 - 2580lbs depending on which flavor of JDM you have so... 900lbs is a bit of a stretch.

2004 WRX :3085lbs      1992 WRX RA :2580lbs
2004 STi :3263lbs        1998 STI :2760lbs
2007 STi :3350lbs        1999 WRX Wagon :2870lbs

Now if you were maybe thinking GH/GR's then you might have a case,

2008 WRX sedan 3142lbs
2008 STi 3395lbs
2014 STi Ltd 3417

Now the GJ are getting heavier also.

2015 WRX 3267lbs
2015 STi Ltd 3448lbs
2016 STi Ltd 3455lbs

Ah thanks for clarifying. Never actually checked the facts, was just going with what I've heard.

It's ok, you are not the only one that just repeats what they hear. That is why I thought I would give the facts rather than be a prick and just say that's BS and ramble on.
