tperkins' Evo 3, 6, 7 (and 5 RIP) (and Starion RIP)
« on: June 27, 2017, 11:48:51 pm »
I figure I have been lingering here long enough I should dump some photos of my most recent car. Gonna be lots of pictures folks, sometimes with explanations, most times not, not necessarily in order.

Pictures from my exporter:

Landed in Canada, made it to Edmonton: (I was so happy to see it on the trailer, it was the first CP9A Evo I had seen up close and it was just so good)

The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

These cars have a thing where the LSD fasteners can come loose through constant jarring, so as a preventative measure I had them replaced with 10.9 grade, with red lock tight, and over torqued.

k_lx making sure those fluids get where they need to be:

Stoptech high carbon rotors and street performance pads:

Ricey fog lights which I have since changed to 3000k

Bought a wrecked evo 5, and it had these Advan RGs on it, so I kept them for myself, the plan is to put some 245/40s on these and use them for track days.

Period correct for the car:

both are 17s

Messed around with lighting for a while to finally get all LEDs

780 season opener:

So far I have done (this list is missing a bunch things) :

Engine (mostly replaced common issue things):
-fluid ampr crank pulley
-turbo blanket
-MAPerformance 02 eliminator front pipe + test pipe (ceramic coated), followed by full 3" exhaust
-ported exhaust manifold
-innovate boost / o2 wideband gauge
-oil pressure / water temp gauge
-hot side intercooler piping
-tomei diverter valve
-turbosmart wastegate actuator
-COP
-poly engine mounts
-intake filter

Drive train:
-upgraded LSD fasteners
-exedy stage 1 organic clutch
-exedy lightweight flywheel
-mitsubishi OEM TOB
-stoptech street performance pads
-stoptech premium high carbon rotors

Suspension/body:
-tein front strut bar
-cusco rear strut bar
-fender braces
-front and rear whiteline endlinks (23mm front bar, 21mm rear)
-poly sway bar bushings
-tein control master type flex coil overs

Maintenance:
-all new gaskets and studs for exhaust system
-rust proof
(79,400km timing belt)
(108,000km May 2015) oil (5w-40 liquimoly + air filter)
(108,000km May 2015) steam cleaned interior
(109,000km May 2015) cut / polish. Opticoat 2.0
(110,000km May 2015) brakes + rotors
(113,000km Sept 2015) oil (5w40 liquimoly)
(115330km Oct 2015) clutch + flywheel
(115330km Oct 2015) axle seals, drive shaft seal, front main seal
(115330km Oct 2015) clutch fluid bled with dot4
(115330km Oct 2015) rear ayc bled, clutch bath replaced
(115330km Oct 2015) Amsoil Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube
(115330km Oct 2015) Amsoil Severe Gear (t-case)
(115330km Oct 2015) Redline ATF (AYC)
(116400km Nov 2015) Filter
(119000km Aug 2016) Oil, (5w-40 liquimoly)

Misc: Kenwood deck and speakers
-18" xpel treatment
-hood insulation
-hood dampers

To do (either in a pile waiting for install or needing to be ordered still):
ID1000s, get some 245/40/17 and make them fit, then get an alignment,  beatrush short shifter, revised lifters, grimspeed 3 port boost controller, wire ECU to log boost and AFR from the Innovate gauges (or just log through the gauges), valve cover gasket, catch can, aeromotive fuel pump (hard wired), battery relocate to the trunk, HKS intake pipe, poly rear diff mounts, and get a tune.

For the tune, I am hoping that Sunny will be able to tune the factory ECU for me. You can flash these factory ECUs with Ceddymods, which he has used, so it should work and he is game to try. If that doesn't work, I might get an e-tune, or swap in an evo 7 ECU which I have in the pile and attempt having Sunny tune that. The nice thing about the 7 ECU is I can flash tephramods and get no lift to shift, launch control, blah blah blah. A bunch of things I will probably never use.

Basically, after that, I have done everything needed for swapping cams / turbo, but swapping the cams and the turbo. I will hopefully just be satisfied and leave it, start saving for something rear wheel drive, but if not then I will put some cams / turbo in. I was looking at the Tomei poncams and the Tomei M7960, but there are also many other options.

:) :)

We have met a couple times? But not since our friendship became facebook official.

You can take some pics of car, drive it. I would like some feedback on it. K_lx drove it while he still had his GD and said while driving "I should get an evo 6" which made me lol. Ideally it would be good to drive after the tune, for now I have the wastegate controlling boost at 14psi, tune and factory turbo should be good for 21psi to redline (and maybe even spike to 27, taper to 21, that will be decided by tuna and not me).

My favorite EVO, and in favorite color... Oh lottery please hit me... hahaha

Sell the STi and get a couple of them! Then pocket some money. There's a good chance that they won't be broke at the same time and you can daily them! I actually haven't had any problems with the car yet (knock on wood), but I understand the '15 STi and the 99' are two entirely different cars with different niches.

You can...  drive it. I would like some feedback on it.

My butt dyno is as sensitive as a potato chip, and my driving skills are non-existent.  I don't know what feedback you're looking for.  The best I could probably say is, "It's fast/could be faster" and as we climb out of it after being wrapped around a tree, "I think it understeers."

Glorious AYC tends to oversteer.

The space is problem... need garage for 6 cars... I already have 3 cars... just need few more cars, but do not have enough space ... lol

Me as well, you just have to trust the AYC (which is 18 years old and runs on hydraulics and witchcraft) and not lift and in sending power to the rear tire with more grip it rotates the car pretty well... from my non-extensive testing thus far. I can't wait to get it to the track.

The struggle. They way I see it, I have my Tacoma, I have the evo, I could use an FD rx7... the list is too long for the parking that I have.

I am hoping for 260-270whips on Sunny's dyno... should hit that I would think.

He has actually had them for years, he currently has 3, this is his driving around on the streets one, he also has one he is building for drag racing, and one that he has for parts.

Looking fresh

Installed this beatrush bling, pretty happy about it. Makes the driver's seat feel more like a cockpit, my hand hardly has to move from the steering wheel, and it reduced the throw by 22% (so they claim).

Factory boot doesn't fit so I am trying to figure out how to address that, and I took a picture that was too potato quality to post and it embarrassed me. I will get a better picture tomorrow. Also, 90's Japan interior.

It is almost like that ricer thing where the ricer thinks something on their car looks good and everyone else thinks it looks bad, because I like seeing the shifter exposed, but it might not actually look good to anyone else. Probably makes me feel cooler than I am/it should.

The exposed shifter is cool, when you don't have the OEM plastic around it.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.
