Check the math, bud. They did alright. No word on how far down the engine was turned though.

I'm comparing to last year with McLaren, where the Honda motor did a combined total of ~50 laps with continual engine trouble, where every other team had completed hundreds of laps.

Is that a halo for karts?

On the topic of halos, they don't look that bad.  The on camera view is not as good as you don't see the nose/front wing of the car :(

I'm actually very excited. People keep commenting on how RedBull might just surprise at the beginning of the season here, so fingers crossed we see at least one of them on the podium!

Ended up watching the FP's last night to just get my first taste of the season, and I can honestly say that although the halos still suck, they don't bother me as much as I thought they would. They only cover up a few small areas when the T cam is used, and I'm sure i'll get used to them as races go on.

On another note though, Ric ended up getting a 3 place grid penalty for staying above the minimum time set by the FIA ECU under the red flag :(

Unfortunate, but that just means he'll be hungrier come race day.

I'm curious to see how the first lap of the race plays out. Sure the halo will take time to get used to, but It'll affect everybody's depth perception and peripheral vision to a degree for a little while. When all the cars are barrelling into the first few turns it'll be interesting.

I watched it on TSN on my PC/projector using my wife's dad's Shaw account... 720p is the best it gets and a itshay load of commercials. I don't have TV and totally forgot how much I hate commercials. haha Other than having a fancy $100/mo subscription to satellite TV, do you know where to watch in better than 720p? It looks okay on the projector, and its do-able. It would just be that much cooler to have crisp images.

Supposedly some thunderstorms on the way before FP3 + Qualifying.

If you don't need to watch it live, you can torrent the race in HD.  I usually get my links from Reddit, but Rathburn uses a torrent site which has reliably been faster at posting races.

Yeah, you can find some pretty good HD torrents. smcgill is the guy who uploads the best ones for F1, just google that guy up and get his itshay.

I'm way too way too lazy for that these days, so I just PVR it off of TSN HD and watch it that way. At least you can fast forward the commercials, and other than watching live, it's the quickest way to get it so I can watch at my leisure. Sometimes the torrents take forever to get uploaded.

Once the F1 streaming dealio becomes a real thing, I'll look into it.

When we say "sometimes torrents take forever to get uploaded" how long are we talking?
Too bad y'all are so far away. F1 screenings would be kinda cool. Just PVR all of it and binge watch for a whole day  :P

Wow that escalated quickly. Gotta use it while the glue-gun is hot I suppose.

I'll have to ask for that link, I'm sort of over powering through ads on the PVR and missing the ackshun.

One of my friends often has summer viewing parties for F1 races. Basically he sets up a projector in his back yard that displays on a white sheet, we get a fire going in a fire pit, we turn on the BBQ, and then just sit back and snack while watching the race. It's real good stuff.

I would be 100% okay with hosting one of these events if you all are interested. They're pretty fun, and seeing a bunch of cool cars lined up in the driveway or in front of a house is always sweet.

Yeah I'm down, that sounds wicked. I've got a big projector in the basement running off the Xbox and Laptop, but finding a good source for F1 has always been kind of ittshay, so anywhere works really.

Like, race is on at 6:00 am our time or whatever and sometimes you can't find a download until that evening or something.

I usually PVR them so I can watch on Sunday morning with some coffee. I'm all for going to a bar and watching the ones that happen in the Americas live though.

I'll have to ask for that link

Haha, I guess everything is relative.  I think that's pretty quick turn-around time.  Sometimes, it takes a couple of days for Reddit, at which point, I'll be pm'ing Rath like crazy because I never remember the torrent username that provides the vids.

True, but relative to big name HBO shows or something, where the torrent is available 10 minutes after the credits roll, 12+ hours is a long time.

Heartbreaking

I was stoked to see them in such a strong starting position. That really sucks how it played out.
Also, "Party Mode" needs to be a dial or a button label on steering wheels in 2018.
