Subaru Cabin Air Filter

I guess it works, because mine was darn nasty when I changed it.

Next time I'll probably look at making my own from furnace filters due to the cost.

I read that you can use air filters... do you know what size?

(and they're cut in 4 or something?)

Hrm, good point... I really should have measured it before I installed it.

Interesting. Well since i still have Subaru money left in my card, i'd keep buying the OEM one and i'll even get a few extra just in case when i get a chance. But this is good to know just in case...

You know i just had my car for a little over a year and had to change mine.  I play a lot of hockey and seriosuly my car started to stink like sweaty goalie equipment.  It was disgusting when i turned on the heat or a/c.  I paid $60 for mine at the dealer i didn't want to wait for it online but ordered two which is coming on its way from subaru genuine parts.

A local member from the TSC used to make these for us. He charged us like 10 bux per filter to cover the cost of the filters. He bought furnace filters and made flawless cabin air filter replicas from them. I bought one from him thinking that my Subie did not come with one, and was shocked to find out that she did in fact come with one. And at 22K that thing was FILTHY!

Sounds like a group buy coming on! haha

Last I heard the admin team almost canned him for doing it over and over again without getting official vendor status.. Even though I'm pretty sure he did it for no profit.

And so I update. Got a hold of the legendary man. He said he is totally willing to do the work if he gets pre-paid for them. He says he has like 3 sitting there that people said "yes make them" but never did get them from him. I might grab myself a new one today I hope. In which case I'll take pictures when I do just to show you guys what it looks like if you anyone's interestd.

Wonder if they are universal for all Subarus?

They will work on any GD chassis, that's for sure. The easiest way to check this is to probably look up the part numbers Subaru has on them, and see if any of them differ. I will also speak with Ron, the guy that makes them and see what his knowledge on the subject is.

Ron called me a little while ago and mentioned that he is not looking for massive amounts of money to make these things. He only want's the $10 per filter, that way it covers his spending on the filters at the hardware store. The reason he wants pre-payment is to assure that people do in fact want them. He said a bunch are sitting at his house still that people asked him to make months and months ago and no longer want. That is what he is trying avoid.

No it's very easy to do.  Home Depot has the furnace filters and all you really need is a good pair of tin snips and Bob's your Uncle.

I used some cardboard and duct tape to create the sides that were not supported by the edges of the original filter.  Not the prettiest, but it works.

its really not hard at all!

Once I pick one up from Rob myself, I can possibly take some measurements for you guys to work with if you'd like.

I would buy a couple for sure.  I'm waaaaaay to lazy to make them, and there's no way I'll pay 40 bucks or more for 1.

time to change mine too!  might just order it from subarugenuineparts.com comes to $46.36 shipping through UPS.  Does anyone know if UPS will charge me brokerage fees once it crosses the boarder or is it below a certain cost?
