OS Giken Clutch FAQ and Information
« on: December 15, 2009, 08:17:13 pm »

VEX Performance is the Alberta Authorized installer / distributor  for OS Giken.  We deal Direct and FULLY Support all products sold!  We do not sell gray market, or knock-off parts.  Unlike other places that “Sell” OS Giken products I am able to include english instructions, and technical assistance.

OS Giken Mutli-plate clutches are able to transmit increased engine speed, power, and output to the drivetrain without loss.  It is made of the highest quality materials, and durability is next to none.  Large line up of models enables you to suit your need, and bring best results you can get from your engine.  Research and development has been continued since OS's first clutch in 1983.

ALL OS giken clutches are complete kits. They always come with: A new Lightweight Steel Flywheel, Heat Treated clutch cover(Stamped Steel or Billet Aluminum), Friction discs (3 sizes) and hardware. If the car came factory with a push type clutch then OS giken will offer either a heat treated OS Giken release bearing, or a OEM option if available. (some kits come with bearings, others do not)

OS Giken never uses a pull type design as they feel its truly inferior and these cars (Late R32/R33, RX7, Mk4 Supra, Subaru, ect) must be converted to push style.  OS Giken has a very Specific 100% Bolt in "Movement Alteration Kit" for such applications.  These items are VERY well designed, and manufactured using top quality materials. Depending on which clutch you use, the pedal often is less then or equal to stock.  These kits are not “quick fixes” they are designed to last as long as your car!

Examples of OS Gikens movment alteration kits:

OS Giken also has full rebuild kits available (in stock in USA) for every clutch they sell. All the flywheels are engineered to be reasonable to re-machine if necessary as well.

Clutch Types

STR2CDThese kits usually include Movement alteration kit / Bearing These clutches are amazing!  This clutch WILL DRIVE LIKE STOCK or better!  They are rated for heavy street use and its recommended upto around 550HP (We find OS to be VERY conservative on ratings also)

STR = High-Performance Street Billet Aluminum Clutch Cover (Lightest twin plate clutch cover)
2 = Twin-Plate
C = 215mm Discs
D = Spring Dampers on discs

TS2CD does not inlcude movement alteration kit or release bearing
This is the clutch we use for cars that might take more abuse and more direct competition. It is still very easy to drive, but may have a harder pedal then stock. This is recommend for the 600hp area

TS = Stamped Steel Clutch Cover (More clamping then STR series, but less then TR)
2 = Twin-Plate
C = 215mm Discs
D = Spring Dampers on Discs

TR2CD  does not inlcude movement alteration kit or release bearing
This is for the guy who wants the medium holding twin plate. Pedal is medium to firm and this clutch is recommend for 650-700HP range

TR = Billet Aluminum Clutch Cover(More Clamping force then TS but less then R)
2 = Twin-Plate
C = 215mm Discs
D = Spring Dampers on Discs

R2CD does not inlcude movement alteration kit or release bearing
This is for the guy who wants the highest holding twin plate available. Pedal is medium to firm and this clutch is recommend for 700-800HP range.  This clutch uses Spring dampers on center hub to link friction discs (no difficult lining up of clutch discs for install!)  Highly recommended to upgrade transmission if available with this clutch

R = Racing Billet Aluminum Clutch cover for Center Hub Plate Design (Highest clamp force)
2 = Twin-Plate
C = 215mm Discs
D = Spring Dampers on Disc Hub

TS3B  does not inlcude movement alteration kit or release bearing
This clutch is still easy to drive, but can handle a TON of abuse. This clutch is recommend for 800-1100HP cars. IF your car has LOTS of power and still wants to be reasonble to drive this is a great clutch. The lack of Spring dampers can make it tougher on stock transmissions. They decrease the diameter of the clutch discs to lower rotating mass and to maximize engine response

TS = Stamped steel Clutch cover (factory to medium clutch pedal pressure)
3 = Triple Disc
B = 204mm Discs

R3C This does not inlcude movement alteration kit or release bearing
This is one of the most hardcore clutches OS Giken makes. This clutch WILL handle apx 1200HP+ Pedal is medium to firm, still reasonable to drive all things considered! This clutch uses a center hub design to link friction discs (no difficult lining up of clutch discs for install!)  Highly recommended to upgrade transmission if available with this clutch

R = Racing Billet Aluminum Clutch cover for Center Hub Plate Design (Highest clamp force)
3 = Triple Disc
C = 215mm Discs

R4C  This does not inlcude movement alteration kit or release bearing
The highest HP handling clutch OS Giken makes.  This clutch is almost ONLY installed with the OS-88 Transmission 1500+HP.  This clutch uses a center hub design to link friction discs (no difficult lining up of clutch discs for install!)

R = Racing Billet Aluminum Clutch cover for Center Hub Plate Design (Highest clamp force)
4 = Quad Disc
C = 215mm Discs

OS Giken has many other variations of clutches depending on vehicle.  Above is just an example of what MIGHT be available for your car!
