Claw's 05 LGT Wagon "Bluestreak"
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:29:31 pm »
After being asked to produce some pictures of my cars I've decided to actually sort all my pics and present them in a somewhat easily browseable (for me) and sortable collection of pics.  So here we go.

Before I bought my first car I wanted a 2.5RS back in '98 and I test drove and fell in love with a Subaru 2.5RS in black with silver wheels.  Only problem was that the rear seats didn't fold and I couldn't take my bike with me to far away places, so reluctantly I bought a '98 Nissan Pathfinder Chilkoot instead.

At 40,000km, the transmission on the Chilkoot died.  After 3 months of dicking around with Sunridge Nissan they finally fixed it to my satisfaction, all under warranty.  I didn't have any faith in their work (remember it took them 3 months to figure it out), so I sold that.

My next car was Gutless Wonder.  It looked sporty, it felt sporty, but it wasn't fast.  It was a 2003 Toyota Celica GT.  Sold it two years later in 2005.

After being carless for a month I took an 05 Subaru Legacy GT Sedan for a test drive.  Apart from not fitting very well, it gave me a silly grin that I couldn't wipe off my face for days...  after trying and driving a few others, I bought a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon, which I would find out later that it was one of 116 made in 2005 with the Limited package....

Why do you has vtak in Subie project thread?!
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Getting ready to do the 48k km service for the Leggy:

IMG_20110603_214940 by acklee, on Flickr

ATE Superblue
Hawk HPS Pads
Goodridge SS Braided lines
OEM Coolant & additive
OEM Airfilter
Subaru Blue Oil Filter

Dunno how I ordered 10W30 oil from Amsoil instead of 5W30.. so I exchanged it with proper 5w30 from Amsoil...

Did the coolant flush and oil change.  Brake hardline/rubber connection is seized.  48 hrs of PB Blaster didn't do the trick, neither did $50 in new tools.

Now I can't even drive the thing:

That shiny metal rounded thing used to be a 10mm hex nut.  It rounded in the flare wrench.

* Claw sighs.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Yikes.

If it was me, the next thing I'd try is filing a decent flat spot on the top and bottom of the nut and then using a crescent or pipe wrench or the biggest pliers I could find.

File the flat spots so that when you eventually apply the tool, the handle of the wrench or pliers will fit in a space where you're able to grab and turn it.

If that doesn't work then the next option is the torch, but I would take the time to figure out what else is gonna get buggered up by the heat. It may not even be a viable option.

I used heat before mine was completely gone, but I'll tell you this: My lines will never be swapped again.

Have you done your coolant flush yourself?

Thinking about doing one to mine after I get the timing belt and water pump changed.

I guess I was really lucky I had zero issues last weekend when I did mine.

Yep, did a complete drain and then refilled it.

Here's what I would get:
2 cans of super blue coolant $21
1 thermostat gasket $7
1 bottle of coolant conditioner $can't remember

And for the record, Rally Subaru parts is closed on the weekend..

all i have ever done, is drain the coolant through either the petcock(drain on rad) or disconnect the bottom hose, and if you aren't happy with that, fill it up with distilled water, idle for a few mins, and drain all that again. you can continue to do this until the water is no longer colored and your pretty much completely flushed at that point. if anyone else knows more or i am wrong let me know. hope this helps
