Opinions on Front Bumper painting Idea.
« on: December 12, 2010, 07:44:03 pm »
I am going go shave the mount for the front plate for a little project some time soon. I have been throwing around an idea to get around having to paint the whole front cover right away by just painting the center portion of the cover between the bottom and top grilles black. I just did a little quick photo chopping to get an idea of how it would look and I'm not to sure I like the outcome. lol Its not going to look that perfect as your going to see the black painted bumper obviously but it also looks a little too much like a new Evo.   :-\
What do you think?  good idea or just repaint it blue and don't waste my time?

How did you do it? I was thinking about chopping it out, plastic weld a piece to the the inside of the cover then fill it with semi flex plastic surgery? haven't thought into it too much but that was my first thought on how to do it.

Thanks! I heard about that thread but wasn't able to find it.
Looking through it now and it's starting to make me want to do it a little more but am still on the fence.

I cut mine but not totally out I cut 3 side and pushed it back and I used fusor heat set plastic repair. It a hard glue but no cracks yet. And then used a flexable body filler from u pol. I can email you pictures. Inside isn't the best looking I just rocker guarded inside

I wouldn't do it if I was you.
There are only car company and 1 other car that does this well. Audi, I believe they were first, and the EvoX looks good with it.
Other cars like the Eclipse and the GT-R (R35) in my opinion look horrible with the blacked out grill.

+1 for cheesy and ugly.

Especially from the front in the light. Your photochop is the best looking one.

I've seen some new base model Lancers (two in Red Deer) that have black vinyl or paint to make it look like the Evos too, and that also looks super cheese.

I.M.O. the only pic posted that looks good with the blacked out center, is the dark red bugeye with the huge front mount.

I would say keep it as is, and not paint it like an Evo bumper.
