OK, Ryan and me just did the AC vent Boost Gauge install on his car today and since I never took any pictures from the install on my car we decided to take pictures this time around.
Tools needed: Dremel tool with a cut wheel and sander wheel, flat head driver, Phillips driver, shop vac, beer and pizza lol
First of all remove the AC vent trim ring, get the Dremel tool with a cut wheel out and carefully remove everything INSIDE the inner ring of the vent.
Then switch to the sanding wheel and sand down any rough edges inside the ring.
Now, you need to turn the vent "inside out" so insert the flat head driver at the top of the vent and try to push the vent ball downwards while prying the flat head in on the top to help you force it all the way down so it turns "inside out"
Remove the guts from inside of the vent ball.
Push it back so it's back to "normal position".
Test fit the gauge to see where you need to grind it down further to get a snug fit.
When it barely slides in STOP, DO NOT insert fully !!! It's a pain in the assay to get out again if it's inserted fully and you need to predrill a hole in the PVC tubing first for electrical wires and vacuum hose!!
Remove the bottom left side dash cover. Use the Phillips driver, there is one -1- plastic screw located on the left hand side and one -1- screw located by the hood release (bottom left) and one -1- screw located at the bottom right where the dash cover meets the center console.
Drill a pilot hole into the PVC tubing from underneath.
Then use a larger drillbit to drill a proper size hole, which of course depends on the hose size of your gauge plus wiring.
Use a shop vac to get all the bits and pieces out of the vent before you feed the hose and wires thru the hole and fully insert the gauge.
Put the trim ring back as what's left is electrical wiring and running the vacuum hose into the engine bay.
Run the hose into the engine bay by cutting a tiny hole in the grommet behind the glove box and run it to the By Pass Valve.
Cut the By Pass Valve hose in two and attach the T-Fitting to the hose.
For the electrical wires, the easiest way to find a constant positive, ignition, ground, illumination, etc is to tap into the stereo harness.
Everything is basically labeled on the wires on the harness.
Put the bottom dash cover back.
That's it, you're done!!
Admire your handywork, before you go for your test drive to see if the thing actually works lol
If anyone need help installing a gauge in the AC vent.... Pizza and beer is acceptable currency in my little world lol
