2013/2014 WSC Ski and Snowboard Thread
« on: September 20, 2013, 06:37:24 pm »
I'm a little late this year... or maybe more on time. The snow has started to fly up in the Rockies and the countdown to opening day will soon begin.

Here's a quick edit of some highlights from last season (or at least what was caught on film). Hope you enjoy!

I'm going to try to keep this post updated with relevant and reliable info. I've got a pretty good grasp on where to go for snowboarding, so if you have any ski specific links send me a pm and I'll add it to the list below. Your one stop shop for all your skiing and riding needs. Cheers!

Nothing of real value to contribute, but I'm just stoked that I'll get to ski a little this year! Got a pass for Rab (woopdie-doo), and hopefully I can get out to the mountains once or twice this year but the school schedule is pretty brutal. My pow skis haven't seen any use in 2 years  :(.

It's a shame about your powder skis, hopefully this season you get lucky in the mountains!

Just put in the order for my Apex passes. Looking forward to another great season there. Probably going to do a trip down to Red this year too; where are you all planning on skiing/riding this season?

Snowboarder here.  Stoked for the season!  Last year I had a Fernie/KH seasons, this year I'm getting an rcr card + ssv card, it'll allow me more flexiblity to hit day trips to ssv but still do weekend trips to fernie/KH.

So pumped for hitting the slopes this year.  So far the plans are to hit lake Louise around Christmas time then revy sometime in February along with either Whistler or salt lake city.  Planning on renting skis this year to see if I want to pick up skiing along with boarding. I'll possibly do some back country boarding when I go snowmobiling as well.

Yeah, I'm excited to get out there again this year, I've been exercising more again so I shouldn't be as terrible endurance wise as last year   :-[
I'm debating trying out cross country skiing this year..  it'll give me something to do locally when I can't make it out..

Also my trips should be a bit cheaper, the brother in law has a house in Calgary now so I'll just be crashing there on sunshine/louise trips   8)

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon.

Question of the day:
What's your favourite music to shred to?
What will be the first song your listen to on your first run this year?

I'm torn between Glitch Mob and the new Naked and Famous album.

Macklemore, Michael Jackson or some sort of EDM music is usually what I have going on my phone.

Also, has anyone skied or snowboarded with a brace before? If you have, how did that go in terms of affecting how your boots fit, and how the ankle it self flexed?

I will be wearing one of those soft tensor ankle brace things for the first time this year as well, hopefully it won't cause any rubbing issues. And for music edm is definitely a must for me. Also love listening to older Thrice to board too

Oddball here, metal. Not dub or dubstep :P. Gets the blood pumping.

First song will be Rejoin by Dethklok

I actually don't like listening to music when I ride. I guess I just like the sound of the wind and the snow flying around me. Plus I probably wouldn't be able to hear it over the voices in my head.

I haven't riden with an ankle brace before but I think with my persistent ankle injury I think I'll put the J-bars in my boots just to ensure my ankles stay in place.

Jess, did you blow your ankle out longboarding?

Maybe. ¬.¬ I've got a partial ligament tear, and am looking at Christmas as a best case scenario to start riding again. I was talking to my therapist about it, and she mentioned if therapy goes well, I could possibly wear a brace and start teaching/riding sooner rather than later, but depending on the input of others, that may be an option I want to avoid.
