He was so proud to finish on the podium, and he deserved it. Top three essentially drove flawlessly from start to finish.
I expect Redbull will protest vigorously, but the outcome seems decided at this point.

I know he has been getting groomed for this for years but wow, nice job Magnussen!
Another driver who really impressed me was Bottas, he had a good start, made a small mistake and broke his RIM while charging hard through the pack, he fell pretty much to the back of the pack then fought his way to a top 10 finish. Quite impressive.

Edit: top 5 finish for Bottas now.
oh, and dammit Kamui...get your itshay together.  With the performance of the Williams with Bottas driving, I can only imagine how well Massa would have finished now  >:(

I've seen flashes of brilliance from Kobyashi several times (SPA in .... 2012 IIRC, pulled some awesome driving), but he's so damn inconsistent.  Pulls a rookie mistake on his 1st race back in F1.
I used to drive Subaru's.

Granted some of the noses are going to take some getting used to but overall not so bad in my opinion.

The Caterham? Have to agree there.

Now how did that get there? Not so pretty to some, but will go down in history for sure.

Love the Williams Martini Livery.  Gorgeous Car.
Red Bull and Mercedes have the best looking noses I think.  Ferrari's and Caterhams are awful.
Great first race.  Looking forward to the season.

Yea I think Williams got it right going to a Mercedes engine.  Bottas was out there flying.  I want to see what Massa can do with the same car.

My boy Maggy killed it, same with Jenson,  It's still very early but it's looking good for McLaren and Mercedes cars.

Did I miss it in the broadcast where they explained the reason for the aborted start?
My guess would be the stall or failure of the first Marussia.
Can anyone confirm this?

Yes. That's it.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

I am not at all surprised the preseason talk of problems at Redbull  appear to have been sorted out.
Lotus and Marussia only posting times in one car?

woo wee, that's at 2 am tonight.. setting PVR now,  I like the spread this year, of course there's the favorites but any team can make podium bar marussia.

couple quotes about the new sound the f1 cars make

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel said: “Formula One has to be spectacular and the sound is one of the most important things. When I was six we went to see the cars live during free practice. The one thing I remember was the sound, how loud they were, to feel the cars through the ground. It’s a shame you don’t have that.”

As far as the experienced Button is concerned, the critics should stop whining or get out of F1. He said: “Go and race something else if you’re not happy. As drivers we don’t have an opinion where the cars are in terms of sound and feel. But when you cross the finish line first you’ve won a grand prix, so you don’t care what the car sounds like or what it looks like. You’ve beaten the best in the world, and that’s all you care about.”

Ecclestone has previously admitted to being 'horrified' by the noise of the new turbocharged V6 hybrid engines but has since said it's 'a little better than we thought'

Bernie knows, if he's not happy the fix will be forthcoming.  :)

Ended up staying awake to watch the race. Won't give any spoilers as to how the race went down, but overall I thought it was a pretty basic and boring race. Almost like the dominating presence of Vettel at the top last season.

Thoughts?

Well the first 3 laps were exciting...

I feel bad for Ricciardo and Raikkonnen again... both those guys had a shot.

It seems like the Mercedes cars out power the rest of the field slightly.
I used to drive Subaru's.

Yeah, the Mercedes units have it on the straights, but the Ferrari's are outperforming in the corners.

I can only imagine how Massa is going to get reamed out for blocking Bottas after the team order.

Poor Ricciardo.. Doing so god damned well, and then stolen there at the end. I feel so bad for the poor guy after Melbourne.

Ricciardo is quickly turning into one of my favourites. I definitely was disappointed about what happened, but hopefully he can get a good shot at it next race.

What is it with RedBull and their subconscious undermining of Vettel's teammates? All the "bad luck" Webber used to suffer has apparently shifted directly on to Ricciardo.

Do they just dislike Australians?

I don't think anything's intentional.  They let Vettel retire during the Aussie race and Ricciardo, for all intents and purposes, placed 2nd.. but was disqualified on a technicality.  His wheel nut issue in Malaysia was clearly an accident, if you look at the replay the 'wheel nut installer guy person' saw right away that it wasn't seated right and Ricciardo didn't notice until he was a hundred feet down the pit lane.
I used to drive Subaru's.

I always wondered about this. I guess I just assumed that with the precision involved with everything F1, stick-on wheel weights would not be used. Check out the pattern in there. Cooling, areo, or weight savings, any speculation?

Are you sure that's an F1 Wheel & Tire Assembly?  Looks like you can see a stud hole on the hub of the rim, which would not be on an F1 wheel.  Kind of doesn't look like an F1 wheel at all.  Might have been a mislabeled picture.

Pretty crazy wreck at Bahrain today. Haven't seen an F1 car roll like that in quite a while haha.

Mercedes is looking untouchable 3 races in. The best racing was inter team with Hamilton fighting off Rosberg right to the end. Glad to see no team orders BS get in the way of some fantastic racing.

That was insane racing there at the end. They just had to "Bring the two cars home" and they did just that.
Great Grandprix to watch, very entertaining.

Crazy Bahrain racing.  Rosberg and Hamilton like Senna and Prost.  That yellow flag at the end there really made it exciting.  Not sure how Hamilton held him off with the mediums.
Massa's start was insane.  He was like on a motorcycle.  More entertaining then the last 2 GPs hopefully it stays like this.
