Fumoto vs EZ Oil Drain
« on: October 21, 2014, 09:57:56 am »
After spending nearly $40 CDN on a Fumoto drain, one of my buddys at work points me to http://www.ezoildrain.ca/.

One local distributor stocks the F105N (picked as a sample) for $44, but has the EZ part for $27.

http://173.240.183.131/fpp/webstock.fp?inpart=EZ-105H

Has anyone tried the EZ?

I've had the fumoto for ~6 years now, and the lock is fine, even without the safety clip. I had issues with the gasket, but that was hit or miss for some people.

I'd like to get one for the 4runner, but I haven't looked that closely at it.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

Speaking for Fumoto as well, the lock is just fine.  I didn't use the supplied gasket, but just a copper one from...  Earth.

The only downside is not having a magnetic plug, but the convenience and cleanliness are huge pluses.

I have one.  Torque spec is higher then the 13ft/lbs of the futmoto.  I didnt trust that itshay washer the fumoto comes with either.  The EZ has a built in one.  Really nice

no worries.  I also broke a fumoto in half using what i deemed a reasonable amount of torque too.  They arnt the most solid item.  The ez is much more solid

I was looking into these the other week, along with a oil filter relocation kit which appear to be surprisingly sparse in the subaru community. I'd like to be able to change the fozzy's oil without there being the potential for even a drop spilling so I could even swap out my oil and filter in the crappy tire parking lot, or late night in my condo when no one is around.

Can't really speak for the quality of one or the other, but I think I'd go with the tried and true Fumoto vs something newer to the market even if it seems to be the same design.

The only downside is not having a magnetic plug, but the convenience and cleanliness are huge pluses.
The argument I've read about the magnetic engine oil plugs is that they are pointless because the filter grabs all the particles anyway. They also make magnets that attach to the oil filter itself however if you so desired.

Oil filter relocation? It's on the very bottom of the motor. You twist it off... the oil goes down. GRAVITY.  :P

To answer the locking concern looking at the website you can use a hose lock to help lock the valve in place. I might order one of these tonight looks like its built pretty solid.

It also generally drips and makes one hell of a mess.

I want something like Asstuna mentioned on the FA20, And I would likely install a small drip tray ring around the housing.

I've never even considered relocating the oil filter short of an FA swap.

The argument I've read about the magnetic engine oil plugs is that they are pointless because the filter grabs all the particles anyway.

Thanks for that :)
