Full send. Full broke.

Now I need to decide on an intake manifold: modify my LS6 with 90mm inlet, Dorman LS2, or find a Fast 90/92mm.

The data in this thread is very helpful. All apple-apple comparison on the same flow bench. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19997187&postcount=566

Got the ex race heads in my garage now. All the hardware has been refreshed (valves, valve seals, valve guides, and valve springs). What I found really cool is there is a QR code laser etched inside each of the intake port. Because these were on a spec engine, the QR codes give each part an unique identification, and prevents teams from further porting the heads. Tech inspection is also made easier, because they will be staring right at you once the intake manifold is off.

Took the stock heads off to check them out and get them ready for sell. When I took off the valve springs, I found a couple surprises.

On the passenger side head, the exhaust spring on 4 and intake spring on 6 both snapped. I estimate the valve springs have about 20-25k km.

On the driver side head 3 of the valve stem seals came out like this. These were installed near the end of last season.

Raised limited?  Missed shift?

That amount of wear & breakage seems nuts to me!

Stock rev limit. I don't think I've ever money shifted. From my research, it looks like with hard driving, the valve springs are considered consumables. And these springs are right near the end of the life interval. The valve seals/seats, however, seem to be shattered by interference with spring or spring bind. I will get in touch with the vendor and get an answer, so the other LGT doesn't have a heart attack every he drives his C5. We have the same valve spring kit.

Yeesh, oils and gas are consumables.  But I suppose...  A race car as a whole is a consumable...   :-\

Found out about why things broke. Valve springs: they are right around their end of life with my driving style. Spring seat/valve stem seals: I screwed up the install and did not remove the old spring seat on those 3 valves.

Driving style? Pinned off the limiter slideways?

I guess all things have a lifespan. But basically your saying sustained high RPM operation will wear them out faster over time.

Sustained rpm, heat cycles, and high cam lift all contribute to shorter life cycles. It's not too bad to replace every 20000km though. I can probably replace all 8 in a couple of hours. New springs are about $400-500.

Del West titanium intake and exhaust valves. Compared to the Ferrea solid stem stainless steel valves, these weigh about 25% less. Titanium may have become my new favorite metal.

Parts to put the car back together are trickling in. Long tube headers showed up today. I am quite impressed by the quality of these pipes, considering how much I paid for them. I was not interested in paying $1k+ USD for some headers.

Speed Engineering headers? Curious, because I've heard a lot of good about them and I'm in the same situation not wanting to pay $1k+ USD to replace the shorties that a PO installed on my Silverado SS.

I honestly don't know the brand of these headers. They appear to be LG Motorsports knockoffs. I have not installed them yet, so I cannot comment on fitment yet. I am perfectly happy with the build quality though.

Instead of starting another build thread and scatter more random information on WSC, I'll just keep adding things about my car life to this thread.

Some of you know that I picked up a 09 MB ML320 Bluetec a last summer for a very good price. MB acknowledges that all BlueTec cars built between 09-15 have a 100% failure rate of the emission systems (EGR, DPF, AdBlue, intake flapper motor). And of course, it is very expensive to repair/replace these parts, only to have them crap out again in a few years. As a result, they do not fetch much $$ on the used market. The rest of the car is built pretty well.

WSC basics:
3.0L V6 turbo diesel producing 210hp/400torque
7 speed torque converter automatic
Double wishbone at all four corners
4Matic all wheel drive

The car already had the oil cooler o-rings (common problem up till '11) replaced by dealer for about $3k. The only issue was AdBlue tank heater element and level sensor faults. Instead of spending $2500 on parts alone, I sent the ECU to Malone Tuning for a stage 1 bench flash and emission system delete. Now the engine produces 275hp and 450 torque, and bye bye DPF/EGR/AdBlue!

Just before the spring, the car would go into boost limp mode accelerating from highway speed. Upon inspection, it was found a foreign object may have touched the turbo compressor wheel and took off a few pieces... Time for turbo rebuild and getting off my butt and actually remove the DPF core. Enjoy the photos!
