2000 Forester Overhaul: The Millennium Falcon
« on: February 28, 2016, 01:41:16 pm »
Hey guys! My 2000 Subaru Forester has always been there for me, so because of its history over the last 5 years, I want to put a EJ202 JDM motor and transmission in and everything that surrounds it to make my car awesome again and stand up to its nickname as the piece of itshay that really moves  :haplo90:

Here's a photo of the millennium falcon as it stands right now:

This ad on kijiji sparked my attention as far as engine/transmission replacements but I'm just learning as far as what would fit/deliver the most power.

I really want to try my best to make this car as fast and as special as possible  8)

I'm not entirely sure where to start as far as budgeting for the parts, how much to set aside, rather...

What suspension system I should look into, the types of engines that would make my car shine, what transmission would work best, what supporting systems I would need for everything to work properly-

I'm the definition of an optimistic n00b right now when it comes to this build!
I need some help figuring all of this out for suuuuure
  :P

Thanks!!

From what I've read, swapping in a JDM engine into a USDM car is usually not worth the headache. Have you thought about an EJ205? Might need a new hood, or cut your OEM one for the scoop to fit, or could run a FMIC. Then you get a turbo out of the swap instead of a single cam.

No, this is a plug & play and way less work than an N/A to turbo swap...

My mistake. I haven't done as much reading as I thought. Even since it's a JDM one?

Because it's SOHC N/A of equivalent generation, so the wiring/sensors are all pretty much equivalent IIRC from an acquaintance doing it.

so JDM engines/transmissions would be somewhat of a 'pkug and play' solution then?

Far more so than the EJ205 swap he was suggesting.  Still do your own research to ensure what you're getting into though.
