I was asking about oil changes at Subaru of Saskatoon and the price of a synthetic oil change (just shy of $100.00), I asked about the types of oil a person can use and that I use Royal Purple, he tells me that Royal Purple oil voids my warranty; and that other synthetic oils won't.
Any truth to this?

As long as the API classification and oil weight on the bottle is what is acceptable in your Owners Manual, then they have no basis to void your warranty.

Royal Purple is garbage and isn't certified so it may very well be true.

Ricers use it because of the name.

RP has no business being in Subaru engines, turbo, supercharged or otherwise.

Well I guess I'll be changing to a different oil.  :-X

Would you suggest I go to something along the lines of Motul or Redline? All I want is the best I can put in my motor so that I can take proper care of it and increase it's life.
I went with Royal Purple after talking to their techs at SEMA, guess I didn't ask the proper questions.

I've used Motul Full Synthetic in my motorcycles for a long time. Great oil, super expensive though. And sometimes hard to find...
What do you guy's think of Rotella Shell Oil? Every sport bike guy loves this stuff. Apparently its cheap and amazing just difficult to find.

To each his own about the fact of RP. I have been running it for 100000kms with a change interval of 6000kms. I have had oil samples tested approximately every 25000kms and the data from the samples has been just fine. My only down side to it, is that it is a rather expensive oil.

Unless you plan on keeping your motor for an extremely long time, and scientifically controlling as many other variables as possible, I doubt you'd notice a difference in terms of engine longevity between the major high quality oil brands. This means Motul, Shell, Castrol, Amsoil, etc. There is no one oil that is perfect for everyone and every situation or any one oil that is leaps and bounds above the others. Often times it boils down to personal preference, not a legitimate fact.

Well to keep Subaru happy I picked up some new oil this morning.

I get it for the same price as the Royal Purple so why not try it out, that and I know it too is a high quality oil.
It says I can get up to a 10% increase in fuel economy; we shall see.
