(Photo by the always great always awesome GrantC, THANK YOU!)

New (to me) wheels! Enkei RPF1 17x8 wrapped in 245 40 17 Star Specs!

Alright, it has been about 1.5 years since I bought my Slow LGT, I've been wrenching on it and having fun with it. I think now is about time I should start my journal. First of all, I would like to say 3 things about myself:

1. I am a n00b in wrenching (more details to follow)
2. I am a n00b in driving (more details to follow on that as well  :D)
3. I am learning how to wrench and how to drive

I guess I should follow the tradition and list all the modifications

Car: 2005 Legacy GT Obsidian Black Pearl

Look cool mods:
- Retrofit Source HID kit
- Rally Armor mud flaps
- Plenty of little scratches and cracked windshield (ok, maybe these don't look so cool)

- Whiteline rear camber adjustment bushings

Stop fast mods:
- Stoptech Street Performance pads
- NAPA rotors
- Grimmspeed master cylinder brace
- ATE blue fluid
- Goodridge braided brake lines
(but wait, tires make you turn faster and stop faster!)

Wheels and tires:
- summer: Enkei RPF1 17x8 with Michelin Pilot Super Sport 245 40R17
- winter: stock 17x7 wheels with studded Gislaved Nord Frost 5

Things to do/install:
- Goodridge brake lines
- STI 6 speed swap (still missing parts, and can use some guidance and help)
- Replace windshield
- Replace timing belt before it gets cold

I will slowly add more details and stories about the car. I'll also post more photos.

Nice to see ya on here! :D

Here's a pic from last year w/o the transponder baggie.   8)  (I love accurate timing, but I gotta figure out how to shoot cars from the drivers side now...)

Thank you Grant! My friends Matt (blue Mustang GT convertible) and Justin (red 911) also say thank you for the great photos.

Last year I only managed to go to 2 events because of my work schedule. This year I'll try to come out more.

What parts do you have for the 6speed swap?

I have these parts:
- 2012 STI 6spd transmission+R180 rear differential
- transmission mounts and differential mount
- 4EAT drive shaft
- shifter linkage
- flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate (need opinion on whether I should reuse these or put in new clutch)
- clutch slave cylinder

need to source:
- DCCD controler
- spec b rear axles
- shifter knob
- reverse lock out ring
and maybe couple other odds and ends little things

Here's the dyno sheet. I rushed and did all the installs in one weekend (turbo, fuel pump, injectors, turbo inlet, EBCS, TMIC), so I made some n00b mistakes (one exhaust leak@ downpipe and 1 small vacuum leak), the injectors were also acting up(more on that later), but Sunny was able to compensate for the injectors. Car feels smooth and strong. I got the leaks fixed up, and I am looking into the injector problem. Once everything is good, I will go see Sunny for a retune. If you are in Edmonton, you are welcome to butt dyno my car.

Also, added picture with the new wheels in the first post.

Wow it's been 4+ months since I updated this thread. I have done a few things to the car:

1. Alignment! Bought Smart Strings and Smart Camber tools for DIY alignment. Took me multiple tries to get the car drive straight. Who knew all four tires have to be on a level surface? And who knew my garage floor is way out of level? Haha I am such a noob. Car is now running 0 toe all around, camber setting is -2.1 front and -1.8 rear. Caster is more than stock due to offset top hats and LCA rear bushings, and I am too lazy to figure out what exactly it is. Car drives nice and straight, and handles great in corners. The alignment tools are great, I can get repeatable measurements and great precision. I have helped my friend align his 911 and V70R, the results are great.

2. New tires. I loved the shaved star specs that came with my rims, but they were getting too noisy for highway. So coming time to replace tires, I bought a set of 245 40R17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports from Costco. It's been said in many reviews, I want to say it again: these are great tires. Lots of grip in dry, absolutely amazing in rain, comfortable and quiet. I haven't tracked these tires yet, so I don't know how they'll react near the limit. Turn in doesn't feel as crisp as my old star specs (maybe due to more tread depth and/or softer sidewalls?)

3. Vex installed aftermarket FPR and Airboy retuned my car. Picked up another 25 whp and 25 wtq, doesn't seem like a big bump, however drivability has greatly improved. The stock FPR on these cars works just fine with stock fueling, with bigger pumps and injectors, fuel pressure is all over the place. The new FPR Jimmy@Vex installed for me made a significant improvement: fuel pressure is more consistent, and throttle tip in response is better.

sean_16G_dyno

4. Finally gathered all the parts and put in the 6 speed transmission with R180 differential. First time doing a clutch job or swap of any sort, I made a noob mistake. I didn't install the wire ring properly on the pressure plate's retainer ring, so the throw out bearing wouldn't click into the pressure plate. Let's just say, it was a real PITA. I noticed my mistake when I was almost done assembling everything back. Of course, I had to take the transmission out to fix my mistake... And because Murphy's Law, when I was pulling the transmission out, the chain on my transmission jack snapped and the whole transmission just hit the floor. Luckily it didn't land on my face, and the only new part I had to buy was a left axle seal. A quick test drive confirmed that all the pain, sweat, and long list of curse words (in both English and Chinese) are well worth it.

Wait, does that mean the STi FPR is just as bad?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

Hey guys,

I actually made a complete fuel system kit because of the leaning out issues I was having with my car. Sean's LGT was my 2nd test mule to confirm that the issue was resolved with my fuel kit.

I'm working on building the kit for a bit cheaper, using a different regulator and barb fittings. We're currently using a Fuel Lab regulator and aluminum AN fittings which makes the cost $349.

I'll post the "after mod" fuel pressure graph in a bit, but if anyone is interested having this mod done to their car before a protune please email me: jimmy@vexperformance.com

HOLY CRAP FINALLY AN UPDATE!!

A couple things happened in the last bit.

First, I got a custom catback system from ABC Mufflers. Trevor and Barry @ ABC did a fantastic job. I wanted to have an exhaust system that is as quiet as possible, no drone, and flows well. The initial plan was to go 3" from down pipe to the Y split, with a Vibrant ultra quiet resonator in the middle, then the Y splits from 3" into 2.5", into the Magnaflow 12226 mufflers. 3" mandrel bends were out of stock at the time, so Trevor had to use 3" all the way to the back. We were worried that the exhaust was going to be too loud, but when I fired up the car, the concern dissolved. The exhaust was exactly what I wanted: barely noticeable at idle, no drone during cruise/acceleration/deceleration, bad assay sound when WOT, and quiet enough for highway cruise. I must give ABC a 5 star on their service. Trevor also said if the exhaust turned out too loud, they'd look into replacing the section after the Y with 2.5" pipes when they are in stock, and I would not have to pay twice.

Second, I have finally gathered all the parts for my little Borgwarner EFR project. I found a BNIB EFR 6258 turbo for sale locally, the price was very reasonable considering the exchange rate, so I picked it up. I have been gathering parts for the turbo ever since. Full Race sells a direct bolt-on kit for the EFR turbos, but it costs $1500 USD+shipping for up pipe, down pipe, and hardware. While I understand Full Race makes top notch products with SS321 and welding robots, I decided to try something different this time and have some parts custom fabricated. Big thanks to I--RIDE--BIKES' project for the inspiration. The build will have:

- Borg Warner EFR 6258 Turbo (T25, IWG, 44 lb/min)
- GT Spec Equal Length Header
- Custom TMIC with Vibrant Core (17.75" x 9.85" x 3.5", just a touch bigger than Grimmspeed's latest LGT/WRX TMIC)
- Custom 3-bolt up pipe
- Modfied Perrin Down Pipe

If everything goes according to plan, this should make a very fun and responsive street and track setup. When I can afford to build my block, I will probably add meth injection and swap in EFR6758 or EFR7163.

Sean

Re: Slow Legacy GT [EFR6258... SHE RUNS!!!]
« Reply #22 on: April 26, 2015, 11:01:12 pm »
Well, SHE RUNS! Finally got the car back today. Still running on base map with 0 wastegate duty cycle, so turbo only boosts up to 10 psi spring pressure. The photo below shows the TMIC almost in its final state, but you get the idea. The core size is 17.75" x 9.85" x 3.5" from Vibrant. Sasha@Boosted Performance did a fantastic job, everything looks nice and fits great.

Initial driving impression is the throttle response is almost NA like, boost recovery between shifts and off/on throttle is instant. Cannot wait to have the car dyno tuned by Sunny.

Made a hood splitter for the new TMIC this weekend. It was my first time cutting and bending aluminum. Quite happy with how it turned out.

Tune is booked for May 19th. This week couldn't fly by fast enough...
