So I'm getting the car ready bit by bit here for the rally test day on the 21st, and Cochrane rally on March 5-6.
What bugged me about the car when I drove it at Big White was the brakes. They stopped fine, but it felt like there was some 'dead zone' in the pedal, that I would have to push past to get to where the car actually started braking. Annoying to try and do minuscule brake inputs with that happening.
Here's what part of the culprit probably is: The brake booster is still in the car, but the vacuum line has been tapped off:
I ordered up a brake-booster kit from L&E Engineering and was all gung-ho to get it done today. However, I ran into a bit of a snag: The brake pedal booster shaft. I can't seem to remove the shaft from the clip assembly, as shown here:
I loosen the nut, but the shaft is still stuck in there. I must be missing something. It's hard to see and fit under there, so I gave up today to get some more information for something I might be missing.
And also, I put Ryan's name back on the car windows. Jamie Willets was my codriver at Big White, as a substitute for Ryan. Jamie did great and I think he's landed another driver for some upcoming events.
Any thoughts on the brake pedal?
Otherwise, looking forward to the test day, I might be able to get Jorge Dascollas sit in the car with me and coach me. Test day is good for working on technique, and I want to attack Cochrane and fight for a top position in class, maybe even a top 5 overall.
