'06 LGT fuel consumption questions
« on: September 14, 2016, 08:09:48 pm »
Hey gents,

I've just purchased a 2006 LGT and after about a week of driving, testing and enjoying I was curious about how much gas I've been going through.
Can my fellow LGT owners post their average kms/miles per full tank they're achieving?
If you have an idea of highway vs city or combined that would also be welcome.

Thanks all,
Headso

Welcome! I estimate my highway is about 8.5~9 L/100km. Combined, I get about 11 L/100km. Husky 94.

Hey thanks!

Can you confirm how many K you're getting per tank? 400? 500?

Thanks

Similar to SlowLGT.

Highway is around 9 L/100km, and the "average" meter thing on my dash says 11.2 L/100km on Shell 91.

Thanks Polaris & SlowGT

I'm asking because i don't trust the "kms to empty"gauge in the car.

Can you give me an idea of your average range?

Hm for me as I almost exclusively drive in the city (Crowchild isn't really a highway I guess), I would say I hit 250km at half tank so roughly 500km a tank? I always fill up by 1/4 and usually I'm at 350-400. Filled up yesterday and I was at 370km I believe.

http://www.fuelly.com/car/subaru/legacy/2006?engineconfig_id=&bodytype_id=1&submodel_id=

The last average for my 2006 (modified, with larger fuel injectors and fuel pump) was about 11.5L/100km (as per 10,000km driven on Fuelly).
That's about 450km on a tank, with mostly city driving.
I almost always shifted around 3000 rpm.

Once the fuel light is on, you got another 60~80 km to go. I can usually get 450~500 km per tank.

I usually get around 450km/tank, I think it works out to high 11, low 12 L/100km. This is in an 07 Spec B with the 6spd, so maybe my gearing skews things. I drive about 75% highway, usually around 120km/hr reving at 3k. Also, I'm always in S# mode (SI Drive). I've compared Sport to S# over a entire tank before, and there isn't much of a fuel economy difference, but a huge difference in performance. I don't think I've ever used Economy mode lol.

Also remember, if you just got the car, you're likely going to experience poorer fuel consumption for the first bit. Always want to play with new toys lol.

edit: Looks like my average is 11.6L/100km http://www.fuelly.com/car/subaru/legacy/2007/coop3422/404494

Not sure about the rest of you but my onboard computer is off by 1L/100km. The computer is much more conservative when it comes to the fuel economy when compared to my fuelly.

Wanna be courageous  8)?  Throw in a Gerry can in the back of your car and drive to empty :).  Then you'll know exactly how many KM's you can go to on a full tank  O0

Our LGT wagon, (bigger turbo,850 injectors, full exhaust, big IC ect).. usually around 9L/100 Km. with a Sunny tune. 75%/25%... highway/city.
Have gone up to 35mpg with straight highway...

Did the mods and tune improve your economy? That's about what a get in my S2000, and two or better litters per hundred than I get in the Spec B.

No I dont think the fuel economy got any better, in fact maybe very slightly worse than before (we track every tank, but I've never run all the numbers pre/post) and the little fuel mileage display thing in the dash is way off. However, we have a LOT more power & smooth delivery.

I expected it to go down after mods and a tune. Just confused as to why you'd get such better economy than my car does stock  :o. I can see my 6spd vs others' 5spd's making that big of a difference?

Your right foot controls fuel consumption.

I assume Cbxj commutes between Strathmore and Calgary, which is pretty flat terrain, smooth flowing traffic. Good numbers are easy.

City driving, with short trips, idling in traffic, continuously changing speed, etc.. Hurts your economy.

Basically, the second you're making positive boost, fuel economy drops hard.

RTP you are correct. As well, our LGT is primarily my wife's car, and she is pretty easy on the throttle... well most of the the time. And yes, a lot of the KMs are highway... even if there is some city driving, it bracketed by a ~40 km highway drive each way. And it has a fresh short block.. And the heads have been cleaned up a little..

The whole right foot thing for sure, I'd say I drive relatively tame. My car has the economy gauge under the speedometer that I look at more than I probably should lol. I know I'm getting worse mileage due to being in S#, but I found just being in Sport didn't yield much better economy because you had to give it more to make it go. Economy mode is even worse.

I drive a lot of Stony commuting to work, but traffic getting to and from Stony can be bad which I'm sure if what hurts me.

When highway commuting, where do you find the sweet spot speed wise? I'm usually around 120, which sits at 3k rpm. I'm not at full boost, but is this killing my economy a fair bit as well would you say?

If you're not driving 10 under the speed limit then you're not driving for fuel economy.

90-100km/h is killer for fuel economy.

Drag increases with the square of velocity, if you double your speed, you quadruple drag. That's like ~40% more drag from 100 to 120km/h.

But, you know, if you drive 20,000km/year, and you improve your fuel economy by 1L/100km, you're saving ~$200. But you're saving 30 hours of your life by going 120km/h instead of 100km/h.
My time with worth more than $6/hr, so #yolo.

Well that makes a lot of sense, and fits my situation perfectly. I was wondering if going down to 110km/h would make a difference, but it sounds like it wouldn’t make a big enough difference. And my commute is 30km each way. So like you said, the economy simply isn’t worth my time lol.
