Sounds similar to what my jetta tdi does. Goes into a sort of limp mode to keep from wrecking the engine..... Also are you trying this while not moving if so, most cars do that I think. Kind of a built in launch control of sorts.
This car is more fun than the entire French air force crashing into a firework factory.

Tom's onto something. It is limp mode which means something potentially serious is wrong. Get the CEL code pulled and let us know what it is.
the subaru's do not have a neutral low-rev limiter.

everything seems pretty normal. drives fine, doesnt look like anything is leaking. just wont let me rev more than 4500. i was driving around with a couple vw guys and they were saying maybe limp mode too. when im parked in neutral it only revs to 4500 too.

LIMP MODE!
Get the code pulled. something is wrong whether you can see/feel it or not.

Jer is right, the ECU thinks that there is something seriously wrong with your engine and is attempting to save it from further damage.

You need to get the code(s) read to find out what the issue is.

so your saying there is a chance that something is seriously wrong? is there a small chance that it might not be something so serious and its maybe just the maf or something..?? im just praying its not anything bad. i might cry. lol

The MAF would be serious enough to put it into limp mode.  It will feed a programmed, ridiculous amount of fuel, and prevent you from hammering on it, so you don't run too lean and cause serious damage.

You should stop worrying, and just get it checked, and get it fixed. You could be causing damage, you might not be - whose to say until you get it checked.

It takes less then five minutes to get the codes yourself so just run out and do it quickly and post here what the code is.  Then we can accurately help you.

I didn't think 94's were OBD II yet, but I'm not sure.

that shows you how to do it, see if you have those wires under the dash.

I am having the same problem and i got code 33 which is apparently the speed sensor.  I was going to order it but was told to try cleaning my maf and IACV first.  Unfortunately I just got pretty sick and have not felt up to doing it.  Were you the guy going in to time tunnel on saturday?

so according to that list it looks like Pressure Sensor, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, Knock Sensor, MAF and Vehicle Speed Sensor.. does that sound right.

Found this code link in a quick search http://www.extreme-check-engine-light-codes.com/Subaru%20OBD1%20Decoder.htm

With all the various sensors faulting I am thinking that either a main harness connector got wet or loose, or possibly a faulty ground.

Start in the engine bay because its more likely that things will have gotten wet or corroded there. I would start with the things that you mentioned in the list. Find where those wires merge into the harness and check the grounds there. Undo the plugs and plug them back in. Unscrew the grounds, clean them and screw them back in.
Go home Subaru. You're drunk.

It has the wiring diagram to pretty much everything and theres more like how to diagnose things, R&R etc.
Unless of course you already have this.
