Were you having cooling issues on the card?

Not at all. Heavy load the card would get into the 70s with a pretty decent fan curve but at those temps it starts to pull back the clock speed a bit.

I more or less did this to reduce noise, keep the temps down and for the overclock headroom. It is really not necessary but I can keep this setup for future AMD and Nvidia Graphics cards.

Safe to say at this point Apex has been my favorite BR thus far (and that's after 1000 PUBG hours)... Printed this 18 x 20" design someone on Reddit did, and was kind enough to let me print it for my office!

I should delid my next build.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

I wouldn't recommend it for something like the 9900k (soldered) as you won't see much of a difference if you put the IHS back on. But something like the 8700k sees a decent return when going liquid metal.

I'm still running a 5820k. I don't even know what my next build will be. I'm tempted by the Ryzen 3000 series.

Everything so far sounds really good for the 3000 series. Hopefully its not a let down cause more pressure on intel is good and I would also love the same pressure on Nvidia but i doubt that will happen.

Well I heard good things about the Radeon VII, but it's an intermediary model. Once they release the new architecture on the 7nm chipset, it should hopefully put some pressure on Nvidia. I can't really justify the jump right now from my 1080 to a 2080.

so I went on another benchmarking run last night, this time at time spy 3dMark. I was able to make it up to 4th in the world when comparing 8700k with 2080 systems. first spot I have no idea how they have that score, during the first grahpics test they some how have 50% more fps than I do which also means 50% more than 2nd and 3rd. I am losing to them as he has ram set to 4200, I could only OC my 3200 to 3600. But I am above their CPU clock speed so that doesn't seem to be playing into it as much, 5.3ghz vs my 5.5ghz. Oh well I am happy where it ended.

mine vs 1st note the first test score difference

I'll switch back to my overclock and see how much improvement i see at from 3.7 to 4.65

My 2500K build has finally retired to the comfort of stock clocks, as my parent's new PC. Their first experience with an SSD, going from 4GB to 16GB of RAM, and now discrete graphics... they had no idea how rough they had it.

For me, got a 9600K to replace it. Which came with a forced update to Windows 10... How do you use computers again???

Found out my benefits cover things like... computer bits. So I decided to order a small upgrade for the PC.

I was planning to, but I don't think I'll have as much time anymore.

Very nice.

Its pretty neat the performance differences you can see using ram speeds and timings on ryzen 3XXX series still. Especially now that its compatibility and frequency limits aren't trash like they were when the 1XXX series launched. Several of the tests showed a double digit percentage increase in FPS between the top and bottom ram configurations/models.

Its a damn shame the 3XXX series ryzen apu's are still using ryzen+ cores and not ryzen 2. Also vega vs navi. They're basically just optimized 2XXX series parts that really shouldn't have gotten the 3XXX series labeling. It will be very interesting to see how far you will be able to push the next generation of apu's once it gets a proper refresh with ryzen 2 and navi, especially with the much higher ram speed support which made a huge impact on graphics previously even with the lower ram speed limits.

One of the RGB fans, RGB connection, was dead on arrival. Have a replacement en-route ;D ;D ;D (Fan functionality works though). Also what a uckyfay of hubs to get these working LOL. (Fan power + RGB Power + RGB Hub Power (+ Fans) + Command Pro Power + Hub connected to that, looped back to the fans.)

It really feels like we're is long overdue to standardize a motherboard fan connector with RGB built into the same connection. We were in a pretty good spot for awhile with pwm fans, but now with the rgb fans we're going back to proprietary connectors, and hubs upon hubs. It can be done cleanly but it just really feels like the industry is making it unnecessarily hard, especially if you have a visible glass back panel RIP hiding the rats nest.

Super true!! Both hubs are powered (separately) via. a SATA connection. (One hub then piggyback's into the Mobo USB). 2x Cables from each Fan; One for fan power, the other going into a hub that connects into the same hub that connects to the Mobo USB.) ;D

I am just very picky and the Mobo has multiple 3 and 4 pin rgb connectors and I will only use parts that dont use their own connectors and work with the asus software.

Yeah, my mobo has RBG specific connectors as well. I haven't looked into it, because I really like my case, and they discontinued the clear side panel for it, so it's not like I could show it off anyways.

I haven't changed my setup too much. Currently using a Ryzen 7 3700x. Most recent improvement is liquid metal thermal interface on the CPU and GPU. Temps dropped about 3-5 degrees compared to using traditional paste. I also made the move to open back headphones with a mod mic. It is a bit wire intensive but the sound / mic quality is really good.

The only thing I am really drooling over these days is the fast IPS monitors.
