No one came =(

So I still haven't done sweet uckfay all to try and fix this issue. I am now sitting stuck behind a train on my way to work and got thinking about it.

Its now much worse. It's full on difficult to coerse this stricken beauty into movement right after starting. Takes a lot of revs to prevent a stall. Additionally, AFTER it warms up at the first light I hit on my way to or from work, the idle is very unsteady, almost stalling cyclically 6 or 7 times. To add to this, my oxygen sensor gave up the ghost and now helpfully displays 'e8'.

I've noticed while sitting here that the idle isn't rock solid as it used to be. The rpm needle doesn't move but you can hear a cyclical change like the IACv is struggling to adapt. Additionally she used to idle about 19" vac and when I first parked in front of this God forsaken train that is currently robbing me of my precious life force, it was 18+ and the vac needle was following the cyclical roughness in the engine noise. It's now much closer to 19 after about 20 minutes of idling and presumably heat soaking, the idle isn't so rough, but the fluctuation is still there a little, fluttering back and forth between about 18.5 to 19...

I'm truly leaning towards getting a new im gasket, a helicoil kit, and removing the phenolic spacers.. I'm also leaning towards pulling over the curb and doing sweet sweet grass donuts in the pipeline right of way.

Also of note, car acts more normal the higher the rpms are, AND it boosts totally fine and feels great with some umpf

Edit: uckfaying loooool after 30 minutes of stopped train, I ripped a bunch of grass up doing a u-turn, boosted away and did the huge detour around the train yard that would allow me to escape this monstrosity. As I come up to the final turn around the east side of the train yard, boom gates close ding ding ding ding ding, the I itshay YOU NOT EXACT SAME uckfaying TRAIN pulls on through in front of me.
That's the last time I do that gamble.

Have you cleaned you pcv valve recently? Wouldn't hurt to clean up.

You could always try setting the car on fire

Why are you stuck in a train yard?

It's because my life is an endless pit of misery and fear.

Well I cleaned the pcv. Nothing but I got a cleaner pcv so there's that. Pulled each vac line off to see if change, no dice. Tried to remove iacv to check gasket and clean but only succeeded in turning one of the screws into a security screw.... uckfay. But on the bright side nobody's gonna steal my iacv innards.
Gonna buy a new iacv gasket and new screws (can you get these in hex heads???) and do that job and maybe try and fit a fuel pressure gauge.
In the meantime I did a tuners cheat and bumped the target idle up to 1100rpm and the problem is effectively hidden.
Anyone know a good nipple tee/tiny mech fuel press gauge combo to get?

If you can figure out what the thread is, go on Belmetric and look for a button-head hex fastener or something.

I have read on forums of people bringing thew old bolts into the bolt supply store and replacing with hex heads. They are nearly impossible to get with a screwdriver but require little force with lock jaws

Impact screwdriver to break the threads free. Then Blackfoot Industrial Supply Centre

You can always use a cheap screwdriver and whack it with a hammer to enjoy that feeling of holding a fragmented plastic handle just before the shaft enters the palm of your hand. You know you want to.

I needed the impact to free mine up, free to use if you want an assist. I bet it'll still work on that mangled head.

Doubt the IACV is your problem anyways.

Well unsurprisingly after doing nothing whatsoever the problem got worse. I just decided to uckfay it and then remove the intake manifold. Trivial. My memory was right and the passenger side bolt hole is stripped.
On the plus side, because I reused the old bolts with the spacer, it's only the top 1/2 inch or so. Pulled right out. I suspect I'll be able to tork it down if I remove the spacers or get longer bolts. Since I may as well remove it twice, I will try no spacers first and see if my intercooler still fits... Pics of carnage to follow. Also, did you know helicoil kits are friggin $50??.?

This is what it should look like, for reference.

update: intercooler appears to still fit. Silicone elbow is a little bit more squished but not by much. Hit torque spec on all bolts huzzah!
What are the odds this fixes the problem?

well to make a list of reasons why im uckfayed:

http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/Content/docType41/Production/ROI_0808.pdf

Quote
ABS codes present
PCM codes present
SRS Codes present
Entertainment Display lockout
DRLs
Exhaust System
Aftermarket equipment installation

-No code reading from stock code port due to standalone ECU
-Half broken entertainment unit custom made on windows with no lockout
-No DRLs (could probably fix with a fuse)
-No real muffler
Bonus round:
-Surprise turbo
-Surprise TMIC
-No boost controller
-Surprise lack of proper intake
-Surprise lack of cruise control anything

I wonder if I'll be able to get this dastardly dan back into BC. If only I had kept the original BC papers I could just say it lapsed for 6 years.

I cant get a copy without my old BC drivers license number.

"so the fact that it was previously registered in BC changes nothing at all?"
"the fact that it was registered outside of BC means that it will require an inspection before being re registered in BC"

also called VEX and the missing cruise control is an absolute deal breaker, but the extra turbo and stuff isnt that big of a concern.
I wonder if I can remove the little toggle thing from the steering column. Even then, the lack of OBD2 functionality is a bit of a roadblock.

partout option:

ECU: 600
Seats: 400
Sways and Suspension: 300
Endlinks: 300
Skid plate: 150
Turbo: 200
Intercooler: 100
Brake brace: 100
Subachad up/down: 250
Trunk computer: 350
Amp and door speakers: 350
Factory alloys with HakkaIIs: 600
Cheap alloys with some wierd tire in dece condition: 400
Absurdly big hood scoop: 100
Second hood scoop: 80
AFR setup: 200
Trunk bar: 60
Various randos (ignition, alt, clutch master): 60?
Dash pocket with fozzy nav unit: 200
Knock sensor/filter/light: 100

Total: $4900 plus a week of work plus a broken heart  :'(

god dammit I dont know what to do... I was hoping a cost-benefit analysis would make things clear.
My options are basically:
-Sell it here
-Drive it to BC and park it. wait till I get a BC drivers license and then try and re-awaken my old rego (doubtful this will work as likely they will have it flagged as being registered out of province).
-Drive it to BC and rip all the parts out of it and junk it, wasting a perfectly good chassis and engine and transmittions etc etc etc and then try and part it out for money (might be difficult as Ill need to ship everything)
-Drive it to BC, buy another subaru and move all the parts over, then junk it. I dont really want to do this as its gonna be time consuming and I want a more professional and fuel efficient vehicle for work.

I've had/seen the relay's they ship with the hellas go bad.

Yup.

Did a road trip involving skiing (actual real skiing, first time since I was 8yo) at troll mountain, XC skiing in the bush, doing work in Kamloops, picking up my boss from YVR and driving him around going to various meetings, doing work in Surrey, visiting friends in coquitlam, and driving back via lilloet.
In the bad news department:
-BC gas suuuucks
-Knocks
-I left my new wideband in calgary so I cant even tune it properly...
-Tried just pulling timing when I see the light go off but with no AFR measurements its hard to tell what the problem really is.

In the good news department:
-Made it to the ocean!
-Made it to squampton!
-Made it to lilloet!
-Made it back to Williams Lake!
I already posted these on my IG, but damn, soooo many rocks on the hwy. That was such a fun FUN drive. all 3 people I saw during the drive had the common sense to pull over after about 2 minutes.
Just had the biggest grin on my face coming out of duffy pass.
Smiles per gallon is scoring high.
