Claw's S2000
« on: June 14, 2014, 02:01:43 pm »
When I moved to Calgary, a buddy of mine took me to the auto show.  There I looked at the Miata / S2000 convertibles and decided one day I'd get me my own S2000.   At 6'4" short, I couldn't cram myself into the Miata but the S2000 would fit.  Since that time I collected a bunch of S2000 toys, magazines, etc. as I realized a new car at over 50k was a lot of money.

Fast forward to 2010, when I saw this one, a GPW 2006 with a red/black on Kijiji.  The kid wanted to sell it to get an engagement ring for his girlfriend.  I wasn't sold on the red/black interior but grew to like it more and more.  I have a friend (war) check it out for me and bought the car a week later.

Mod List:

Interior:
. Genuine Japanese Honda premium floor mats
. Spoon Sports blue wide rear view mirror lens
. Recaro Pole Position on RA Motorsports sidemounts and Buddy Club Rails

Exterior:
. Hard Dog Roll Bar
. Dunlop *Spec Tires

Bling:
. Spoon Sports magnetic oil pan drain plug
. Spoon Sports magnetic transmission drain plug
. T1R Magnetic diff drain bolt
. T1R Magnetic diff filler bolt
. Science of Speed stainless hood dampers
. Spoon Sports brake and clutch master cylinder socks

To Do:
. Lern 2 drive.

Because I didn't fit in the LGT with a helmet on, this was a bonus as fitment was pretty decent for me, even though my helmet stuck up over the stock roll bars by a good fit.

I wanted to try this "auto-cross" shiznit everyone was talking about, so I registered for the school and a few classes.

It sure beats cruising down Whyte:

(Even if you did have Lyall in your passenger seat. :P)

Sadly, I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.. back then it was a decent 45 minute drive to Namao for 3 runs and a lot of standing around.  By the time I thought I figured things out it was pizza time.  Next run was similar...  maybe I should've registered for some Z club weekends as I heard there were opportunities for a good 10-15+ runs.

Some time ago, this showed up.  I had also paid for BC rails, but they never shipped them with the seats.  After complaining back and forth with GT Motoring, he refunded me the money.  Since they're such a weasel of a shop, it was already 45+ days past the transaction so I can't dispute it with Paypal, so I said screw it.  I do not recommend buying from GT Motoring.

Then I ordered the BC rails from Gerald @ Invision Auto Imports.  Great customer service.. the products were back ordered but they showed up when he said they would.

I paid a visit to RA Motorsports, and Matt was kind enough to have these made.

For sure..  that ( S2000 | Supercharged BRZ ) + (LegacyGT | STI ) are a great car combo.

Today I finally put all the pieces together.

Matt was also nice enough to weld the rails to the floor mounting tabs to ensure they never break apart.

And waalah!

Seat is angled towards the outside, as the rails aren't perfectly parallel when mounted - the inside rail sits a few cm ahead of the outside one.. but I'll fix it later.

Of course..  I couldn't go Squashed Smurf Blue..  or Grimace Purple but in the end only Jersey Red Mesh would suit it most appropriately.  :D

I've never seen purple seats before.  Wow they look awful.

I do like your red ones though :)

I'm feeling more and more like I might get an s2k as a third car, since I can't seem to sell Laura on the NSX.

With so many S2000s showing up on WSC I had to go sit in mine just to remind me how awesome it is.   I turned it over, played with it a bit while sitting stationary in the garage..  I found a problem with the steering.  Power assist turning left, manual steering going right.  Did a bit of research and it looks like the EPS sensor needs to be reset or replaced.

Writeup here with links:

Will get on that soon...

It is a third car. I just happened to post that before I bought the 4Runner.

I need to pick up some hood dampers. I also want to swap in my Recaros, but I'm worried about dealing with the weight bladder on the passenger seat. I don't want to just have the constant airbag light (plus working airbag is a plus).

Nuts.. even with Lizardskin wrapping the metal bar and Tenacious Tape, I've developed a 4cm gash in the left corner of the soft top.
