Can't sleep and should, so I thought maybe I'd start a build thread from my phone. We'll see how this pans out.
Basic idea was to build a cheap as uckfay Mustang drift car/mischief maker/cop magnet.
THE CAR:
one twilight esque sparkly teal 1993 Ford Mustang lx hatch.
Complete with perfectly running 2.3l efi 4 banger putting out a massive (and I'm not even joking) 89hp!!!!1
No cels, no dash lights, no back seats.
Saw this thing on kijiji for $800 one night, drove over to the most white trash house in the hood, talked the guy down to $400, drove about 4 blocks unknowingly peg legging it due to a seized drum, got stuck in the snow, then enlisted the help of my much pissed off room mate (this was the first she'd heard of the whole deal) to come help me bang the wheel loose and drag it on a tow rope the remaining 15 blocks home.
I left it in front of my house and went on Christmas vacation.
Upon my return I was pleased to discover the city of Calgary had seen it in their hearts to relocate it to one of their secured storage facilities. After towing, impound fees, and the destroyed wheel, the total value of my car had been raised to nearly $800! Hooray!
THE ENGINE:
Approximately 2 months later I found a carbed 302 for sale in red deer. Buddy was planning on installing it in his 1992 Toyota 4runner. Which would have been awesome. Upon arrival at his home, which had 4 cars in the yard, 3 in the driveway, 2 in the garage, and 2 more Street parked in the cul de sac, it became immediately obvious why he had abandoned his noble ambitions. Motor rang in at $1000 and an oil stain on my favorite hoodie, which I then proceeded to grossly shrink in an attempt to clean.
As I am now discovering, the PO probably only sold it because literally every single sealable surface leaked fluid.
This engine was groatier than the mental image of your own grandparents uckfaying on a bed of slightly off produce.
Anyways, engine is mostly dismantled at this point. Plans are to remove all egr junk, grind the air injection inserts out of the exhaust port, reseal the ENTIRE thing, this time properly, slam some arp head studs in, then spray some horribly brightly colored engine enamel all over it. I hope to clash as much as possible.
4 barrel carbs are a completely new thing to me, so we'll see how that goes.
Also, it came with an unknown cam, a bnib msd distributor, Ford racing lead wires, and a bunch of rando parts. Planning on also purchasing an msd ignition coil and some solid engine mounts.
Also I should mention that me and Rathbun pre stripped it to look for rust before I committed to the engine and we found $6 in change, $3 in Canadian tire money, and a lovely assortment of hooker stabbing devices.
Basically my plan goes like this:
Polish the turd of an engine
Rip turdier engine from Bay unceremoniously
Try to hawk 4 banger on Kijiji to recover my impound fees
Clean up engine bay a much as possible
Slam in new engine, get started.
Complete interior racekar strip
Install super cheesy red fixed back bucket seats I bought for $200
Purchase full length sub frame connectors and a oxy acetylene kit
Learn to weld, install sfc's, not necessarily in that order
Swap rear end with a thunderbird rear end with disc brakes
Buy half decent rad
Buy manual brake proportioning valve
Buy hydraulic hand brake, braided brake lines, and lowering springs
Do a complete hack job Mish mash of body work and paint.
Current plans include:
Chalkboard hood
At least one macrame body panel, done with cheap American comic books, like old Conan singles and "the prophet"
At least one sticker bombed panel. Maybe the hatch.
Maybe something glow in the dark or reflective.
Anyways, it looks like it's time to try sleeping again, let's see if I forget about this thread for 6 months or not. Pics to follow.
