Well itshay I guess let the money spending begin haha! $750 for $3000 worth of stuff is pretty damn good though. This is a quick list of "must haves" I found on the Googlewebs:

Metric socket set 5mm-15mm. 1/4" or 3/8" drive
Ratchet in same drive as sockets
Ratcheting 1/4" bit driver
1/4" Bit selection
1/4" socket in same drive as chosen ratchet (this allows you to use 1/4" bits in the ratchet; helpful for tight spots)
Needlenose pliers (long reach and offset are also helpful)
Adjustable wrench
Flathead screwdrivers (good for prying)
Vice grips or channellock pliers (for when you need more gripping force)

Thanks for all your help! Probably will leave the belt until next Tuesday if I come out to Tims to let you more experienced people show me, hopefully it'll be fine until then to drive. Will call up Balance Auto as well in the near future to get sparks done as well.

The more you spend, the more you save!

There are folks here who're generous in opening up their garage and tools.  Throw up a WTB and ask for a space to use.  After a while, you'll figure out what tools you really want for yourself...

A Breaker bar comes in handy quite often.

Yeah, that's absolutely right.  If you're buying new rims, a breaker bar and torque wrench will be good for swapping wheels.  They also go for 50% or more off at Can Tire.

Torque wrench. Wish I had one. Will probably order one from Amazon as it seems cheapest.

The maximum ones usually go on sale for 60 once a month or so. Every other month they seem to do a bundle deal with the breaker bar.

Also since there are some newer guys to the field here watch out for what increments the torque wrench you're looking at work in. Usually the 3/8 drive is inch pounds and the 1/2 drive is foot pounds. You'll be using foot pounds for 95% of the bolts on the car. I caught a few people at Canadian tire making this mistake and almost walking out with one of the inch pound wrenches.

Princess auto is also worth considering as even some of their cheaper torque wrenches come with calibration sheets which is nice.

Thanks for all the great advice everyone!

Planning on picking this guy up today: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/37-piece-socket-set-0581211p.html#.VrO4XrI4GUl

For torque wrench, is it ok if I use the lug wrench thingie that comes with the car? At least I'm assuming my car has it. Also going to pick up a plier or two, an adjustable wrench and maybe a set of sockets from 5mm to 13mm roughly if any are on sale to pair with the $13 set

Yes, I use lug wrenches / regular socket sets.
Torque wrench is nice because you can torque the bolts (wheel lugs, oil drain plug) to exact specifications as per manufacturer recommendations. Not too tight, and not too loose.

I have never used my torque wrench for the lug nuts (although I probably should), I use it more for when I am swapping suspension bits, steering wheels etc.

Buy quality tools the first time. You will thank me later.

Too bad you didn't live closer because I would give you a mastercraft socket set as I have 3 kits and just picked up that 400 piece set over Christmas.

Hm ok, I'll save the $13 then and wait for either the 400 set on sale or something else. Are break bars usually included in those sets? Assuming they don't, so that's 1 set of sockets, 1 breaker bar, 1 adjustable wrench, 1 torque wrench, and some pliers. Seems manageable.

Haha would you even be able to mail a full set through Canada Post rofl? Wouldn't mind buying a set off you especially if the wheels work out as well.

I'd recommend a couple screwdrivers as well. Philips and flathead. #2 size is the most common

Just thought I'd pop back on and mention that the torque wrench and breaker bar combo is actually on sale this week for $60 at Canadian tire.

Going to Canadian Tire later today. Is WD40 ok to use on the pain to get the dealer sticker off? Also, thinking of buying oil to top up in case I check the oil level and it's a bit low when I fill up my gas, what oil do people use, and do I just pour it in to the max fill line? Any problems if the new oil is different than the old oil currently in the car?

Thanks all!

Yeah I believe mixing oils should be fine. At least, I've done it without I'll effects. Presumably the previous owner used the recommended oil weight (5w30). Just pour it in until it's full. For reference, if your oil reads at the bottom of the dip stick then you will need 1 quart to bring it back to full. Half way on the dip stick requires half a quart, etc.

Ive used 'goo gone' in the past to remove dealer stickers

Ah goo gone would be good, I think I have some left. Sweet I'll just buy a bottle at Canadian Tire then like Mobil-1!

Goo gone, some fishing wire, and a heat gun make it super easy. The dealer stickers don't usually have much adhesive to them, shouldn't have too much trouble with it.

Another bunch of dumb questions :p

On car start up, the noise was a bit abnormal, like not a normal engine start up noise, started up fine but just sounds weird; sometimes when driving when I'm starting from a red light, as I give it gas the car kind of "jerks" a bit or something like that, not sure if it's when I give it gas or when the car goes from first gear to second gear, but I'm assuming that this is the problem resulting from the spark plugs not being gapped properly?

Also, I smell a bit of oil when I start up the car, but it goes away after a bit, would this be a result of the spark plugs as well, or is it the oil sweating thing problem that "comes with every old Subaru" haha? I'll check the oil levels next time, but if I change oil every 5000km, and VEX said it was an oil sweating problem, it shouldn't be that big of a deal?

Finally, the steering wheel feels a bit tight when I turn, no squealing anymore though, I think the power steering fluid was a bit brown/red (will check again during the day tomorrow), so I'm assuming the tight steering wheel and the squealing a few weeks ago is probably like you guys said, the belt being loose, but maybe I need to change the PS fluid as well?

Thanks!

If the PS fluid is dirty, just flush and replace.   Here's the guide on it:

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/howto-replace-power-steering-fluid-15-minutes-172976.html

While you're at it, replace the o-ring:

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/replace-power-steering-o-ring-247949.html

It's easy.. took me something like 30 minutes to do it all.
They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?
