I'm just gonna cut out that section of the exhaust to make it fit.

I think that will be good 'nuff. ::)

Bit of an update.

A new(er) engine is on the horizon for the laggin wagon.
I'm hoping to have it in my garage sometime next week, and the swap (per se) shall begin.

I'm swapping out more than I need to, but I'm using this as a learning experience as well.
So, sometime over the coming weeks the following parts shall be replaced:
Engine
Trans
Rear diff
Rear subframe (addition of a swaybar)
Rear brakes
Struts (and springs)

Just in case anyone is still paying attention, I'd like a set of fozzy or OBS struts and springs. Anyone that has some and want to get rid of them, let me know.

I'm lookin' at you Honz.

You should supercharge it instead of turbocharging. Think I saw some guy who just cut a hole in his 2.5i hood with tinsnips and jammed in a cheap centrifugal blower.

edit: http://jalopnik.com/5225023/garage-mechanic-ghetto+rigs-subaru-impreza-with-eaton-supercharger yep

Can't get much uglier than brazing metal together with your barbeque.

I do love me some GFs, especially lifted GFs. Keep it up!

that's not a centrifugal blower, that's an Eaton M90, and I'm pretty sure it's a roots type blower...
a centrifugal blower is essentially the cold side of a turbo with a pulley to spin it instead of an exhaust housing...

If you're serious about supercharging it, this is the thread to check out:
http://www.rs25.com/forums/f7/t92852-my-m62-supercharger-build-diy-how.html

sorry for the threadjack snackers, good luck with the swap!

Oh, my bad. Sorry - I'm not terribly up on superchargers unless I can see the guts of them.

I think if he really wanted FI, he would've got parts from a WRX, but then his beater would become faster than his time attack car which would be unacceptable.

Additional parts. Trans will be out, why not?
I didn't spring for the TiC linkage, but hopefully this will be good 'nuff.

*more* than good 'nuff, i'm sure.  Since your shift lever is the "narrow" one, does jer still have his OEM/STI short shifter FS?

Snackers if you want the short shift lever from the SPT short shifter, I have one. Thought it would fit my RS but it didn't. It is yours for free. Would just have to meet up. Let me know.

So this was entertaining. I'm sure it was for Grant too.

The tiniest pinhole (two, we later found out) had opened up at the bottom of the fuel filler tube.
We also found out that this isn't the first time the filler tube has been "patched".
Interesting stuff.

JB Weld (or its equivalent) to the rescue!

No pics unless Grant wants to take some.
The wrx struts raised the car a bit, but probably just brought it back to its "proper" level since the struts on it were blown.

So the time has come!
I have begun the project of swapping the laggin' wagon. It will have the dubious honor of going from no power to slightly more than no power!!

Tonight's activities:
Jack up the car
Discover that the fuel filler pipe is still leaking fuel
Forget to loosen the lug nuts before the car was on stands
Realize the car wasn't in an optimal position, put wheels back on, lower car, move car, start over again.
Forget to loosen the lug nuts before car was on stands
Remove battery
Drain oil
Have supper and debate whether the comfort of the couch is more important than working on the car
Drain coolant
Chip away at concrete mud on the car from rallyx at racecity last march
Realize I forgot to loosen the axle nuts before the car was on stands
Remove radiator
Chip away more concrete from the inside of the engine bay
Cleanup

The fozzy rear end to go in at some point

Various bits that need to go in at some point (RS intake, front grill, "new" headlight and side marker)

The filler pipe still leaking

About 1/4 of the concrete that fell in my face while I was draining fluids

Rad gone

Rads don't need like... air to pass through them, right?

That mud is fantastic I had to deal with it pulling the motor on my WRX. I had mud ontop of the headers, its great fun having the grit fall into your eyes/mouth/nose/hair/ears.
