E13tankbuster's '11 OBP STi Sedan - -NSTR-
« on: January 26, 2014, 11:41:25 am »
The Past

I’ve always been a Honda guy. In '99 I started with an ’89 CRX SI and put basic power bolt ons, intake, headers, cbe, rims and suspension, and some major, major rice (no photo because digital cameras were for rich people back then, and I don't want to be laughed at). Then a ‘94 Civic hb, and same thing, added basic bolt ons, nothing fancy. Then an ’04 RSX, I loved the seats.   That’s pretty much why I bought it. Added the usual, lots of bolt ons.

Never really knew much about Subaru’s other than standard AWD. Test drove one in ’09 before I went on my second tour to Afghanistan (so I was considering spending my tour money before I went, seemed like the thing to do lol). It was an ’09 STi White HB. The dealer drove it off the lot, not warmed up or anything, and hammered it onto 109 like a retard teenager. I almost shat my pants! I was hooked then and wanted one. Ultimately, common sense presided and I waited to see if I came back alive from tour first to buy one.

I went, came back, and forgot all about the STi. I ended up clearing all my debt upon return which was an awesome feeling. Then on March break, I was sitting around at home all bored and thought.. “I wanna go test drive some cars for fun”. Off to Acura, they had nothing. Went to Mazda, saw some nice RX-8’s. Went to Nissan, 350’s were sweet, but impractical. Went to Subaru.. “Oh yeah, that cool STi” I thought to myself. By this time they had a sedan in the showroom. I liked the sedan waaaay better because all I’ve seen on the roads were hatches.. Took one for a drive, and was like “yup, let’s do it”. Worked out the numbers, fought with the used car guy to get a wicked trade in for my Acura, and had ordered an OBP STi.

My very first brand new car.

Lucky me, my car was on the LAST boat of Subaru’s to get out before the tsunami hit. That put a stop drop on cars and parts from Subaru for quite a while..

Anyway.. enough with the past..

My 2011 OPB STi Sedan

(random event photos)

My autox attempt

Believe it or not, this is my very expensive money pit of a daily driver. I drive it year round and this car is the best handling vehicle I have ever driven in the winter, and that’s why I drive it in the winter. Mind you, I take a lot of stuff off for the winter season.

Mod list:

It all started with bushings.. to keep the warranty, then an AP, cus y’know, it’s like putting just the tip in.. then…warranty is over rated…? uckfay it, I’m goin’ for broke!

TSXR lenses, flattened squirrel finders and washer mod

Originally, I wanted black EVERYTHING. Including these:

But, price played a bit of a factor (Volks right?..sheesh), and after months of googling pics of black on black, I found that unless you get the EXACT same black as the body color it wont look perfect in my eyes. So I opted for the matte bronze instead. And in my opinion, it was the way to go. Pretty sure my car is the only one rolling around on Kiwami's in Edmonton anyway, so that makes up for it.

I like it loud..

I know there’s more mods but I can’t remember them. Ill update as I remember..

Parts sitting around:

DW65C fuel pump

A crying credit card

I’ve done all the work myself, minus the dyno tune and exhaust install. Had that done in one shot at Lightspeed because I don’t have a dyno. And no, my car hasn’t blown up yet from them. I went to Lightspeed because I was naive and thought all tuners were equal, and it happened to be closer than Airboy. And the trunk setup was done by Powersource Performance.

Been to Castrol a few times too.

13.2 @ 104 was my fastest.

I seem to be spending more and more money on this thing, so I figured I would start a thread.

More exterior upgrades this year, then probly motor next.

Thank you kindly.

This should give it a subtle red hue in the projector at the right angle/light. I considered putting led's but having them in a sealed bezel would make it a pita to change when they pop due to the heat.

While researching it, I saw a guy come up with some crazy contraption to "shine" led light into the projector via some tube of what looked like 3/8" dryer hose..

Your car was absolutely stunning at the Red Deer Meet; as if it was dipped in glass.  Those Brides look great too!  They match the interior very nicely.

Nice car :)

Haha yeah I know, two years later.

I might put em up on IWSTI one they're finished and installed. I need to re-polish the lenses. I did it once but it's still a bit swirly. Once I get them perfect, I'll get them 3m'd then show the final product.

Ditto.  Does this cause any color tone changes to the cut off or light??

That I can't personally answer as I have yet to install them myself. But from all the research I've done, I'm going to say it doesn't affect it.

I also flattened the "squirrel finders" on the cutoffs and added washers to space the lens. This is supposedly going to give a sharper cutoff of the emitted light at the top.

Oh yeah, and tsxr lenses..

God damnit, finally.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

Wow nice car!  Kudos for driving it year round too, to me it's sacrilegious having the STI drivetrain and not using it thru the winter.

I took the mesh out of my seibon and I think it looks better,  you can see the STI on the intercooler when you do a walk around.

And, according to airboy, it doesn't block 50%+ of the possible airflow...

Not sure if serious...?

Plus I'm looking into this because I would have to drill/modify the OEM splitter to use it with the Seibon hood. The Seibon hood doesn't direct any air flow onto the tmic at all :

http://www.subtle-solutions.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_23_36_58&products_id=84

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2364568

I'm talking to the guys at Subtle to confirm it'll fit with the Seibon hood. I'm pretty sure it will.

According to Subtle Solutions, it will fit. If for whatever reason it doesn't, they have offered to refund my cash and pay for return shipping.

How nice of them!

So, for under hood heat protection I'll probly put some self adhesive DEI heat reflective stuff.. I'm thinking the gold stuff.. or silver?

Oh, and some other stuff for the full retard setup that I'm waiting on..

Aaaaand...some Varis goodies.. which apparently takes a couple months to have produced..
