Volks for winters? You need a Porsche if you have that kind of dough.

I'm getting the Foz ready for Driven in a couple weeks, so I finally got down and took our Flex polisher to my mad swirls! These swirls have been bugging me since I bought the car last year, along with the way it won't bead regardless of waxing efforts. My timing for the show meant I couldn't take a trip to see 10secdream beforehand, but he's on tap sometime this summer to polish and CQ coat once my new set up cures! :D

After washing and claybar - ground zero!
It's not very obvious from the first pic, but the previous owner had the block heater cord flapping in the wind, scraping the fk out of the hood, headlight, and bumper. WHO DOES THIS???

I didn't get any progress pics, but here are some slick shiny after shots.
I used 3D Ultra compound, 3D polish, and Zymol Ebony carnuba wax. This is the 4th car I've tackled, and probably the worst / most obvious in terms of swirls since it's black. Learned a lot and could probably do a better job next time :) However, it's going to a pro, so I'm not worried!

Also, this arrived a few weeks ago! Genuine JDM FXTi grille, to go with my new USDM Sports bumper. The bumper is getting painted next week, along with potentially the hood, scoop and a rusting dent on the rear hatch. After curing, it'll get fully 3M'd.

Lastly, to finish it off [for now], I'm super excited for these to arrive! May or may not be here for Driven - fingers crossed!

And... I should just bite the bullet and order up an 06/07 v-limited style lip, right? $46 on ebay (or $150 into Canada...)!

Man, I need to learn how to detail.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Your detailing posts are 120398210x better and always make me want to run out and clean something. So satisfying!
I'm hoping to chat and learn a bunch when I come up. For example, I learned after the fact that I should've been using a higher (5-6000) rpm range on the correction stage(s). I'm too nervous to apply a coating like the CQuartz, but so excited to have that durability!

Sometimes using the high speed is not always beneficial in the correction stage (generates lots of heat) but the general rule of thumb is higher OPM for correction and lower OPM for finishing.

Did you use a Flex 3401?

Yup, my noodle arms did better with the 3401's handling and middle of the road power, versus the Rupes 15 or 21.

For a second, I thought you WERE the elusive silver Forester owner, I think his is an St/b of that generation too?

That's my secret $3.25 parking area! :D

Well, I guess I need to close another build thread. I'm going to stop making them, I think I might be jinxing my car ownership.

Yesterday morning on the commute in to Calgary from Strathmore, we all slowed to the usual 60-80km/h for the ongoing construction zone (posted limit 80km/h). A dump truck brought the whole line to a dead stop while turning into his offloading area. We had a good couple meters to spare between us and the Caravan ahead, after coming to a full stop. However, the guy in the Explorer behind us, didn't react fast enough/ was distracted/ was following too closely (as he was charged...). Even with a couple meters' space, we were pushed forward to impact the caravan. We're OK but stiff and sore the next day; getting checked out at the doc's at the earliest available appointments.

Here's the aftermath:

Driver's side rear impact:

Front passenger side impacted the Caravan:

C-pillar / hatch crumpled interior (thank goodness my Aussie wasn't back here....) :

That's my rear hatch glass!

Oh, and.... My ZE-40's came in yesterday!!!!  :sarcasm:  :'(

I'm looking to replace the Foz with another 2006-2008 XT, manual of course! If anyone has any leads, they're pretty damn sparse in Canada. Not even sure what insurance is going to base their average vehicle value on!
