The JDM Foz - For sale!
« Reply #1 on: September 19, 2014, 12:12:17 am »
Well after owning a bunch of Honda's (still do  8)), I decided to find out what all the turbo fuss was about. On top of that I finally tugged my nuts and bought a car from Japan. I didn't tug them very hard, and ended up buying a 97 Forester.

Unfortunately it's an auto, but after searching a month for a manual I decided that they were fairy-tales. I was a little hesitant at first because I think boxer engines suck and I knew I wasn't going to be able to inspect the car before purchasing it, but I got bored and wanted to spend money. I bought this car for something fun in the winter and because it's more practical than my S2000 which I have for summer.

It's a 97 Forester T/TB with 56,000 km and an auction grade of 4BB.

Because people only look a pictures....

As for plans regarding the car, I'm going to start saving for when the engine blows up.

Also, I am going to do the following once it lands:

Brakes/Rotors/Lines - Blanks, some good street pads and some stainless lines
Tires - Continental DWS or Blizzacks
Filters - Oil/Fuel/Air/Cabin/Transmission - Yeah I know about the tranny one, still going to replace it so uckfay you
Fluids - Oil/Tranny/Diff/Brake/Coolant/PS
Spark Plugs/Wires/Coilpack(Maybe) - NGK and OEM 2.5RS
Timing Belt/Pulleys - OEM
Serpentine Belt
Block Heater
And rust proof the car - Primer/Rust Paint/Undercoat

Eventually I want to get around to bushings, some sways, good struts, ect. and see where it goes from there. Maybe one day I'll take cool pictures of it doing Subaru stuff.

So much Subaru hate for a new owner!  ;)

I knew I could convert you...

Also, the car looks alright I guess, for an old man mobile.

He secretly loves Honda's - he even thought about swapping the last civic he had  ;)

Well many hours have went into figuring what the uckfay is going on and what parts will work on my car. This is the list of what I have come up with that I'll be immediately installing once the car lands... if you see something wrong feel free to chime in.

I'm still debating whether to change the water pump or not.... also I'm not to sure on the spark plug wires part number. If anyone knows what will work on my car let me know.

Oh, and the car finally leaves Japan on October 2nd  8)

Looks like a did list. Can't wait to see when it lands. PS why not buy winters from venders or Costco?

I'm under the assumption that I'm not going to get as good as a deal locally.... The tires I posted are about $450 shipped to my door.

Is that in CAD including customs fees? If so that's pretty damn good, just sounds a little too good to be true.

Went and doubled checked a receipt from this summer as I purchased some Continental Extreme Contact DW's for my s2000. I paid $615 shipped to my door. That included $135 of duties/gst fee's.

The Extreme Winters are $384 right now (in the Foz size) on tire rack, so add $135 to that and you get $519. So I guess I'm a bit off. Still, fairly cheap for a great winter tire....

No I should be good, thanks though!

I'm meeting up with snackers on Thurs to buy a set of winters he had laying around that meet the oem forester specs (215/60/16).

True... but to be fair it's the new winter beater and an old man vehicle.

Ships out tomorrow (if it's not delayed again). Two weeks to Vancouver, one week in customs, and one week to Edmonton... so November  :'(

I was really hoping I would get to see it when I come home this month, oh well.

Hopefully the old civic holds up till this gets here ;)

When are you home over Christmas? Also the civic is still going strong. That car is amazing.

I also started to collect parts.

Should be home on Dec. 15 for three weeks before I head to Calgary.

Also, this should kick assay in the snow with those tires. Watch it be a year with next to no major snow falls.

After reading pages on pages of people quoting facts, others conducting numerous experiments, and various anecdotal accounts by YourMom_SucksD & CrastrolHaterz I found that I gained enough knowledge to give my nuts another tug and buy fluids for my car. Really, there is nothing to see here but I'm bored and want my car to land so I bought stuff.

Our cars don't use PS fluid... They use ATF in the power steering.
