Lola - because racecar. NA miata
« on: May 27, 2015, 07:20:37 pm »
Picked up this bogging stuttering Miata for racing, fully stock, except exhaust for the moment. I have a stock cat I am ordering to weld back into place. I brought her home and redid the timing from scratch. She now purrs and pulls hard.

1990 Mazda Miata 1.6L Manual with 270,000 and climbing.

The previous owner had the belts replaced, new injectors, sparkplug wires, sparkplugs, coolant temperature sensor, maf, air filter. O2 was replaced by me and a friend before I even drove it home.

Planning on keeping her in ES for at least one year. So the only things I am doing are Koni yellow sport with stock springs (Koni yellows ordered and shipped from warehouse), replace the test pipe with a stock cat (also ordered but has not been shipped yet), maybe tires sometime, an alignment, maybe a bigger swaybar in the future after an event or two. And last but not least paint.

The softtop is still in a box and requires me to install it. Will probably be installed just prior to the next AutoX event so I can have fun without banging my helmet off the hardtop if I sit up a little.

I would be painting the hardtop as well.

I do require a battery tie down hopefully before the next AutoX event so I can pass tech. Just need to find the parts.

A new shift boot too would be nice.

Previous owner started sanding Lola down to repaint her, but lost interest and now shes mine to finish the job.

Honestly if I could somehow keep that sketch on the quarters I would because it was actually pretty well done. I may attempt to save it when I repaint the vehicle.

There will be updates as I piece her together, and paint. I still need to get rocker panels to fix the only bit of rust left on the vehicle.

I didn't want to race FWD so the Miata was a natural choice for me.

Oh look, you finally made the thread. You can also mention that it was seat safety switch that helped you swap the O2.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

I didn't know his forum name lol. He was a great help with everything that night. Also I was a little busy working on the vehicle to actually post anything. Either way you gotta drive it again, difference is night and day.

I would hope so.  The timing was way off before.  Did you end up finding a timing light?

Nope, Parts source did not have any for loan. But I found some pictures online showing where the timing marks should be at TDC so I just redid the timing from scratch.

There is still a lot of prep work to be done, and that is where the results of the paint comes from. Spraying the car is easy, prepping and properly managing each stage is what makes the difference between a good and a bad paint job.

I don't think it will take much for Ginger to put Lola down..... Lola's hardware maybe in good shape, but the software(driver) is a little slow and laggy. Although I've been flogging around town tonight trying to replicate what LDS did to slide the back end around.... and I could not...... The back end just did not want to break loose, I have been driving her every night, maybe that loosened the shock valves up again from sitting there for 6-7 months. All I know is I'm gonna have a blast chasing after your times.
