With a +13% correction factor. Imagine how fast it would feel at sea level.

It felt noticeably different at the Shuswap last year too. I think that’s around 800m lower altitude than here.

First off a huge thanks to CEAG, Doug Hall, and all the WSC and non WSC people who made this weekend so much fun.

Made a last minute call to go to Castrol this weekend for lapping with CEAG. It also gave me an excuse to properly fix the trailer brake wiring that got damaged when I had a blowout, swap the fresh tire back on and try towing two vehicles for the first time. Happy to report the truck had no issues towing a BRZ and my Z06 at the same time with tools, spare wheels and tires etc. We were likely around 19k lbs GVW and it was even surefooted in the snow and ice on the way home. Generally we cruised at 100km/h with a few sprints here and there (hint: a Honda Fit is considerably faster from 100-130km/h). Economy hand calculated from Crossfield Esso to 10secdreama house in Ardrossan then back to Castrol was 21.3L/100km.

In terms of the Corvette on track, I managed a 1:27.913. Peak oil temp was around 131°C and water temp was around 99°C. I did swap the front Carbotec pads and rotors on that were purchased from SlowLGT and although they survived and I never had any bad brake issues, the fluid is definitely ready for another bleed and the rotors are pulsating very badly now. The two year old Zestinos are absolutely useless when cold, warm up quick but overheat quickly as well. After I set the 1:27.913 lap it was pretty clear the tires were never going to be the same again. I will likely be buying Hankook RS-4 in the same size for next season. The car itself is a handful on track, not once did I turn traction control off, even on hot tires every corner exit has massive amounts of wheelspin. Competition driving mode works quite well and the traction control isn’t super intrusive. The gigantic steering wheel and crappy stock seats suck. My goal is to make it make it to a sub 1:26.0.

Well after taking a week to not touch the car, do a bit of auto x yesterday, and think about things I’ve decided not keep the car. I generally don’t enjoy driving it on the street, and many times have to force myself to take it out to events. It could be a fast road course car but will require significant investment on the brakes, cooling and interior to start with, and still comes with expensive consumables. Based on not really street driving it and not really wanting to invest a large amount again to improve it for road course, I am going to sell the car.

What am I planning to replace it with? At first I thought I would just get a quick older Honda (RSX Type S or 8th gen Si) and strip as much weight out of it at possible, and only buy tires, brakes and alignment related items to see how far I could take it. But after looking around and considering we may have a much closer new road course in the next two years, not giving a uckfay about classing well for auto x anymore, and having a trailer, I’ve decided to look for an open wheel racecar, like a Van Diemen, Formula Ford or Formula Renault. Something that gives the thrills on track with cheapish consumables, and lots of room to learn to drive.

This actually makes the most sense for you. Now to unload the Corvette.

but what about the trills of driving an awful race car on slicks through the rain to the track with all the worry that it will break while youre there and youll never make it back.

New primary 02 sensors (Bosch), plugs for the passenger side bank of cylinders today. Noticed a crack in my exhaust mount on the H pipe that is leaking and will need to be welded. Still chasing a coolant drip somewhere.

Truck update: going in for idler and pitman arm replacement, trans shift kit with fresh internal and external filters and fluid, and front diff reseal while I’m away. Likely will add a lift pump before tow season as well this year.

Car update: still leaning towards selling in spring after rebuilding the AC system. May or may not replace it with anything in 2020.

ive decided to offload the car, it’s been a lot of fun, heartbreak and financial ruin. I have my eyes on something else and am hoping to buy a house in about 18 months time, so having this thing sitting around getting very little use is not worth it anymore.

Yeah it’s not a open wheel car unfortunately. It’s much cheaper and more normal.

Weak. Why buy a single car when you could buy a whole team and employ your friends!

Or just nut up and buy an F1 car:

lol

In case anyone here is interested $20k is what I want for the car. Currently doing some more upkeep on it to improve sale chances but I can show it if anyone is serious.

I tried unsuccessfully to sell the car half heartedly at a huge loss and it didn’t work out so I’m gonna spend some more money.

Double the oil cooler size and mount in front of the rad.
Double the radiator size.
Go from Carbotech XP10 to XP20 or XP24 on the front.
Build backing plates and add hoses to my front brake ducts.
Put in stainless steel lines finally.
New tires, unsure what size or tire yet.
