The Subachad pipes have become really popular in the past few months mainly because he started producing them again. A current thread is on RS25. Nice work scoring them used.

I ran with an open vent and no catch can for a while. It will make a small mess. I still don't have my IAT properly mounted either, soon though.

finally got ecu installed this weekend. I soldered the two most important inputs: the cam and crank trigger, then hit em with heatshrink. I stripped the crappy insulator off a ton a butt connectors and butt connected + heatshrinked the rest. Will post a pic of my I/O table. Actually fairly easy to figure out once I got the right wiring manual (which required me to try about 5 before getting one with the correct plugs and colors).

Protip for anyone else doing a similar thing: think about cable management the whole time. seriously. beginning to end. Mine looked like this towards the end:
http://i.imgur.com/ozRR9C0.jpg

Ill put some more tips in here, as I found there was surprisingly little info on doing this, as there is plug-n-play available for wrx/sti, and apparently noone has been stupid eough to do it to an ej22.

more for my own reference, problems ive had so far:
-tapped +14v instead of "on" +14v
-used wrong PClink software (G4 vs G4+)
-updated with wrong firmware
-main relay not energizing
-no spark when cranking, good spark while testing
-no RPM reading
-learned I had to use "ej25 Quad AVCS" trigger setup
-setting base timing - finding the mark on crank pulley
-have spark, fuel, offset, still no fire.
-IAT sensor: GM open element - drill tap intercooler

UPDATED TURBO POST ON PAGE 1

Also I hit the character limit....

so here's some pics as they pertain to that post.

Here is my partial wiring config.

Oh an I also built a cheesy little intake out of a spare cone filter I had and some old charge piping.

Here is my hilarious wiring job.

Here is the new IAT setup, the comparison of the two TMICs, and the temporary IAT setup.

Here are some pertinent aspects of the turbo oil feed/return:

Heres my new exhaust. already oxidized...

I would have recommended having the oil return a little higher up on the pan. It probably won't affect it.

Coming along nicely. Exhaust is 3" all the way back?

2.5" all the way back.
it was LOUD with the WG propped open.
but the turbo makes a HUGE difference. now its totally reasonable.

about the oil return, I had read that on various forums. I decided it was more important to go below the baffle. For some reason people reasoning was that oil would "back up" and stop the turbo from draining properly? which of course is totally ridiculous.

My only real concern was catching it on stuff, but I have a full primitive racing skidplate.

you might change your mind on that later
i have seen turbos move oil into the hot side before due to return line size and location

Probably from an incorrect match between oil feed rate and return line size.
big feed + too small a return could lead to back-up, but you would notice it almost immediately when the oils the coldest. Based on how small the hole is in the banjo bolt I got from the stealership, id say subaru decided the journal bearing doesnt need much in the way of volume.
Hydraulically, the below scenarios are all the same. Except the small amount of capillary rise in the first.

Off the top of my head the only problem I could think of with going above the baffle is that you might draw in air from the froth the crank leaves behind in the oil.

I strongly doubt that's enough to justify the recommendation so I've probably missed something.

looking at your paint shop art, the only logical sketch is the bottom one.
no resistance other than the chance windage,

i have been down this road, did steel 5/8 steel lines returning to the pan below oil level, very direct.
smoked..

did -8 steel braded lines to above oil level,
smoked..

went to 3/4" id hose to above oil level ... smoking stopped.

if your set up doesn't smoke.. ill be shocked.

If I get some time I'll jot down some sample calculations with some oom values that will show viscous losses through the full flow section are completely negligible.
In fact, your experience verifies it to some extent. Film thickness is dependent on the flow surface, and backup potential dependent on id and film thickness. You tried 5/8 below, got backup, tried dash 8 jis, which has a drill size of 0.433 inches, got backup, tried 6/8ths and changed materials and you got no backup. I bet if you took your setup and went below sump depth, you would see no change.

-8 was above oil level.. smoked less than before, but still smoked
and small size upgrade to "6/8"  or 3/4 as normal people call it..... and the smoking went away
easy solution, none of this oil line restriction stuff..

Factory return lines are always above the oil level... must just be a silly engineer joke .. no reason behind it.

It's more glorious than I could have possibly imagined. You could probably set up a booth on street corners and do caricatures of peoples cars, all in MS Paint.

Hey my car!

Having a large return should aid in oil drainage from the turbo to below the baffle. It really shouldn't be an issue on your setup, but just keep it in mind if you start blowing oil.

Though I would post up the result of my most excellent cable management skills..
Also got all the knock out. Turns out im a retard and was adjusting ingition timing without really understanding why adding degrees before top dead center was known as "advancing".
Turns out its all about flame front velocity and crankarm/piston angles. Simple if you just take a second to think about it. Im honestly surprised I didnt blow up my engine, running 55 DBTDC  :o

You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car... Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should. You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake! You almost had me? Now, me and the mad scientist got to rip apart the block... and replace the piston rings you fried.

I hope that 55 degree advance was while it was running to redline and not at, like, idle.

If it's the static advance I wonder what your compression is now? :P

haha yeah it was pretty much mapped to 5psi+
Now boostin to 10 with only occasional knock. I think if I retard timing in the cylinder closest to the turbo it could help.
Need to get my fuel management under control... 9.8 AFR @ 6psi is not the most economical methinks..
