Finished up the engine, still need to install my new trans and engine mounts though:

That picture makes me very happy.

Thanks! haha that picture makes me happy too, I've stared at it for too many hours haha

Brakes on this are causing me so much grief now, I can't find any leaked, tightened and re-tightened every fitting, and I still have almost zero brake pressure.
Replaced the MC twice already thinking that could be at fault, now I'm basically out of ideas besides replacing calipers. All new rubber brake hoses already too.
I know the braking system is quite a simple one, I just can't find where this problem lies

Couple things happened recently..
Finally installed my brake pads:

And installed a clean dash:

Cars going to be pretty much considered finished for now, building a house now so that's taking up all my time and money.
Maybe I'll get her painted next winter, we'll see.

For now here's a couple recent pictures:

You've done incredible work with this car, Matt. Considering how it was when you acquired it, it's looking amazing man.

Well after nearly a full summer i guess I could do a little update on this..

I love it! haha being the first timing driving a modified corolla I'm so impressed with how the near 30 year old chassis handles.

Here's some pretty pictures:

But of course everything couldn't be all perfect...
At the beginning of August my head gasket decided to give up on me, and I had a huge scare when I went to the dealership and they told me head gaskets were discontinued..
But after talking to someone who actually kinda knew something, and after getting him to look up the same part for the AW11 we figured out that the last guy was looking under a 4A-C
So got that back together in exactly 1 week including waiting for parts. After doing the HG the engine felt amazing, honestly felt like I had gained at least 5% more power.
All was good.. for now.

YAY! I was driving again!
And then this happened:

Uber scary seeing coolant pissing out again right after doing the HG, I thought foresure it went again, but thank god it didn't.
No big deal right? Toss on a new O-ring and go.. or so you'd think..
In this great metric country.. I dare you to find a metric O-ring.. IMPOSSIBLE! lol
Ended up buying an o-ring making kit and using that, which worked.. for about a week.
That freeze plug block heater would blow out 3 more times before I took it into work to 'modify' it to never come out again. Yes it probably would have worked better had I just put a factory freeze plug back in.
But I got a free (and first) tow truck ride out of it!

Got it back it for the last time and I haven't had a problem since.. with the block heater that is..

About 2 weeks ago and noticed the car running very very rich at low rpm and low throttle. It got so bad that eventually it just wouldn't idle. I had to always have my foot on the gas to keep revs up.
Not fun to drive in Edmonton traffic like that, so I parked it to try and figure things out. In the first week the engine didn't get any worse, but my clutch master died.. I still haven't replaced that yet though, mostly because at the end of last week the car would not start at all. No amount of throttle would help anymore.
And that's where I am now, still with no car and with summer coming to a quick close.
It's currently driving me nuts. I just can't figure it out. I have fuel and I have spark and definitely have air. Plugs are completely black though from running so rich and the spark seems quite weak.

That's all for now! If anyone has any other ideas, input is always much appreciated!

Man this car looks good!

I can't believe how well it has cleaned up considering its age.

Sorry to hear about your recent issues. Any plans for the hood and fenders?

Thanks!

As for the carbon bits, yes, there is a plan.
I want to fix all the rust and paint all the body panels that can't be removed easily, and I want to vinyl over everything else.
Vinyl because I don't want to paint the carbon, and I don't want to spend money painting doors/hatch when I plan to remove them for lighter units in the future.
But I've figured out a way to keep the carbon noticeable when looking close enough, but you'll just have to wait and see on that.

Hey there! I registered just to post this.

This is absolutely fantastic! I was really impressed with just how clean this build is.

I've been playing with the idea of getting an AE86 for a couple months now. Any tips for a beginner on doing this? I'm also scared that I might not be able to afford the build with my current car loan. What should I expect to pay in maintenance alone? Any tips is much appreciated. Thanks and keep the updates coming!

Tips.. it's a simple car, keep it simple haha
What you want to spend simply depends on what your goals are.
Maintenance *should* be peanuts on this car, but for me it's been about as reliable as my old GC was >.> haha Just keep in mind this car is getting old, and you'll never know if everything was up kept the way that it should be.

Totally forgot about updating this for the remainder of summer. But I did get it up and running again.. just not for an extended period of time haha
Made it out to an auto-x and shortly after that it seems that my alternator burnt out, and over amped, leaving many melted wires and big headache for me this winter..
But at least I have something to do! and it shouldn't be as expensive as last winter if I'm not really buying anything haha
Maybe I'll end up doing a bit of a wire tuck, we'll just have to see how ambitious I am.. or how cold it gets.

I've got some new pictures from Danny that I'll get uploaded and see if I can upload an auto-x vid to youtube

Looks amazing, definitely a classic. I'd love to have a go at one of those. Cars from the 80's have such a great style.

I don't know what the styrofoam cup is for.

I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

It's a reference to Initial D.

Theres a pretty unreal ae86 sitting next to my subaru in the "graveyard of lonely awesome forgotten vehicles" just west to strathmore.
