Unless you've got loads of titties, dragons, or synths, I think you'll have better luck with Netflix.

Time to hop on Adobe and turn those production values up to 11.

Last night, we got the Acura buttoned back up again and it runs and moves.

I just wanted this crap done, so there are no pictures of what we did, except for this one I inexplicably took of the new clutch slave cylinder.

We did have one scary moment where the car seemed completely dead, but it turns out that the ground battery terminal had come loose from the body during all of our ham-handery. It took us an embarrassingly long time to circle around to testing that, because the actual cable buzzed out on the continuity tester.  :-[

Part of that is probably because I took the excuse to start pulling out the previous owner's wiring and OH BOY OBERTO do we ever have a good post coming up for that. My back and neck already hurt.

But where is bumper??? For this, we go to our special correspondent, Ken Orthodox:

Bumper cover went back on yesterday and then it was time for CANYON DRIVE CANYON DRIVE CANYON DRIVE CANYON DRIVE

First, new lugnuts. Tuner lugs can eat my hole. BTW, if you want to buy M12x1.50 tuner lugs, let me know.

The bumper got a skim coat of Plastic Bond to try and keep the cracking down until we get a chance to do some more body work.

Pro-tip: do not use a heat gun to cure Plastic Bond faster.

Pro-tip 2: do not use asphalt undercoat to make Bondo stick-on chicken mesh adhere better.

CANYON DRIVE CANYON DRIVE CANYON DR boy that's a lot of RCMP CANYON CRUISE

Parked next to this JDM YO Mk3 Supra with "twin turbo" and four different tires.

This bumper cover is such absolute crap it's not worth doing a really good job on, but I also wanted it to look okay. So what's left to do? A backyard bumper spray with almost zero prep.

After I left, some bodywork happened.

We'll see how this goes. I've always been afraid to do a bumper cover before, so at the very least next time I'll have less fear.

Where's the grille? Well, we bought an entirely new grille, but it didn't come with any screws, and the old grille was so busted it had lost most of its screws. That's a project for this week.

What kind of tuner lugs?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Rusty. I'm not sure exactly what the brand is, but it's the fluted style. I have the tool/adapter for them too.

Definitely not McGards, McGards wouldn't rust this bad. The new acorns are McGard.

If the tool has CD3800 on it, it's a Ceco, from Kaltire, and they rust.

Grille in. Did we have the right clips? We had clips, so they were the right clips dammit.

Hood pulled straight with a stud welder and then ghetto fogged. Notice the missing spots and low points and taping job. We'll re-do this after the rally, but the bumper cover and hood are both so bad they should just be replaced. We just wanted a 30-footer to keep the cops from wondering why our convoy has a car with obvious hit & run damage.

Here's all the stuff we had left over. We don't need any of this.

Mission 1: acquire Slurpees. PASSED.

Mission 2: drive around central/southern Alberta all day and fail to locate any garage sales except for two lame ones in Strathmore. PASSED.

Rally, here we come.

So we ran an abbreviated version of our rally without any major incidents. The only real flaw is that the previous owner's hardwired iPod FM transceiver has a little bit of noise when you put an active GSM cellphone in the cupholder.

We went up through Kamloops, then back to Radium and soaked in the pool for a long while yesterday and today. About 2000km round trip, and it turned in like 7-8L/100km, which is pretty good.

I'd write some more but I'm pretty tired, so in conclusion the Acura TSX is a good car and people with motorhomes, Ford F150s, fifth wheel trailers, Ford F250s, second-generation Rams, and most people with Colorados are shitheads who don't know how to drive and need to get out of my way.

After we got back, a lot of stuff happened. I went to another country. Someone got married. A house was sold. Another house was expanded. A roof was cut off a pickup truck. Another car project was born. A tractor was driven. The Town Car did a skid. I accidentally started a hardware business. This post is about none of these things.

Some Australians drove the Acura for awhile, and although I'm not specifically blaming them, VTEC started acting up when the car was cold started. Sometimes it would try to rip 'TEC at idle, which - while I appreciate the car's go-get-em attitude - was not conducive to drivability.

It even stalled at one point trying to accelerate onto the highway.

Let's try replacing the VTEC solenoid screen.

This is a fairly easy job, it's just in an inconvenient location (just above the oil filter) and we had to play a little bit of extension/socket parallel parking to find the right combination of tooling to be able to back the last bolt out one click at a time. It came out!

Old gasket/strainer on the right, new gasket/strainer on the left. The mesh didn't seem that clogged, it was just oil surface tension, but the gasket was definitely bypassing. Part of it crumbled as I pulled it out of the solenoid inlet housing.

While tightening up the solenoid back onto the engine, disaster struck! The nipple broke off the oil pressure switch.

I could have used the one off my parts D16 engine (since I've already looted it for half a dozen other sensors), but figured it was probably best in this case to go buy a new one in town. Plus, I wanted a Slurpee.

Once the new one was bolted down, we gave it a brief check for leaks, and none were found.

The TSX consistently rips 'TEC when demanded, even when cold. Returning to idle when cold is still extremely rough, but I think that's probably the electronic throttle body - they're known to be a bit dicky on these cars.

I was already married, my partner in crime (and owner of the ranch) got married.

He sold his new wife's house, and then bolted a shitload of extra house onto his existing house.

Kind of put a damper on the wrenching for the summer, especially when both of us were burnt the uckfay out from doing a last-minute transmission swap on this thing.
