Thanks Gabe for the GoPro footage!  So this happened twice in the morning and once in the afternoon:

But then on my fourth run, with Brian in shotgun, I finally made a decent run.  Celebration, all the Sheilas!

Unfortunately, we lost audio for most of the afternoon because I took Gabe's mic for my camera :(  Selfish.  But, this one's worth abiding to:

And here's Gabe's fastest run in the morning (52.8)

And my fastest in the morning (54.5)

Also, that annoying whine...  We think it might be my alternator.

Probably just a loose nut behind the wheel.

Probably just a loose nut behind the wheel.

If there's one thing that my friends here on the ol' WSC have taught me, it's that you have to always tighten the nut behind the wheel.

Probably just a loose nuts behind the wheel.

It's consistent with both Gabe and I, so there is more than one nut we need to tighten behind the wheel.

Four month update.

Things got heated in here and I gave up on this thread before posting pics of that AutoX event.  Here's a great shot Gabe took, totally unedited aside from my face and crop:

Killin Time
by Wong 0ne, on Flickr

There was some car meet that I thought might be interesting.  It wasn't, but the company was good.  James, Jei, Justin and one other guy who's name doesn't start with a J were there.

Kouple of KoolKats

And here are pics from the last couple of months.  Maybe you saw them on IG, but here they are in bigger res:

And here's an image one of my students, @that1romanianguy made!

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!

I'm approaching 90k miles on the car and while it still feels as strong as ever, the motor's in the danger zone.  I had a heart to heart with my wife in regards to what to do: sell it before the motor pops, or drive it and replace/rebuild the motor when it does.  I'm quite attached to the car and I really want to know just how far this engine will go.  My wife, up until today when she had to drive it, was also in favour of keeping it and replacing the motor if it comes to that.

So that's settled.  I'll keep it.

Look at Airboy's, or even my car. Engine ain't gonna pop if you keep oil in it.

The oil pickup/baffle and lack of serious thrashing also help the motor from popping.

Also, sick, that picture turned out good!! It also illustrates how much lower I sat in your car than you do, because you are tall and I am smol.

You show great mechanical sympathy towards your car, and it is still really healthy (as of last time I heard it run)...

Even if it does blow up, your car is more than worth having a built motor put into it :)

Maybe get a daily beater to keep the miles off the sti? 🤔

Darn it, Gabe, you took a better picture than me with my camera.

I don't know, that's you on the left and me on the right.  We sit at the same height.

April first is just around the corner  ^-^

Haha, yeah.  Last year was my last hurrah.  Can't top it and I won't try, but nobody believes what I say, even on the rest of the calendar days so, oh well.  It's the price I pay.

I was remembering if I leaned forward or not or if I jacked the seat to be uncomfortably close to see over. But I couldn't see the scoop. Weird in that pic.

Next time you bring the STi out we'll compare "real seating" position. That or 10secdream sits even lower than imaginable lmao

I actually sit lower than imaginable. I see enough to see the road and have to rely on my perception and feel of the car to navigate obstacles. Autocross was a mess in the Miata so hopefully this year I get it sitting a bit higher.

Real race car drivers don't need booster seats.

No, they install seats in a way that suits them.

every time someone decides to keep an aging car alive and not sell it off to the nearest teenager with a raging WOT addiction, an accute hearing issue, and distaste for fresh oil, an angel gets its wings.
